To be honest, I think some of the reaction to him staying is a bit over the top, and I still really want him gone. I see him as no more than a caretaker until they get the support structures in place. That's not bottling anything, it's sensible management.

I imagine his intention will be to keep us afloat. Clearly we won’t compete for promotion with what we have and that’s before we pick up our inevitable injuries! If he keeps us stable, within FFP, etc then we should be in line for a good tilt next season.

Clearly?

I don't think that's controversial. That's a pretty thin squad we have there.

Should we start a separate thread to discuss the minimum number of points Bruce needs before the first international break?

6 games - non against teams relegated from Prem - plus a cup tie.

I say he needs to win cup tie plus at least 12 points from first 6 games - 3 wins, 3 draws.

Hull away, Wigan home, Ipswich away, Brentford home, Reading home, Sheff United away.

Those are our games up to the first international break. Should really be looking at two points a game average. It would be nice not to already be playing catch up by the time Autumn comes around, for once.

The most important thing is that the Club has been saved.
The price is that we have got to put up with Bruce and his failed, dull, unimaginative, tactically inept  football.
He doesn’t deserve to be managing Aston Villa but timing has been on his side.

Perfect summation

Build the foundations - even if it means we "waste" another year of dross on the pitch

Last year we won 3 of these corresponding games (4 if you count Wigan in the cup) drew 1 and lost 1. We can't afford a bad start else people will start mentioning the R word. If we can keep Grealish and/or Chester we should be able to aim for play offs.

Lets just say if we gleen a point from the Hull game I will be delighted, if we can hold Wigan for a point, doing well, 3 points for our first win of the season vs Reading, after the summer Villa have had, this would be a fantastic start.

Give him 5 league games, at least 10 points or jog on.

And another bright spot, am I right in thinking this keeps Footyskillz on the forum?
Who cares? If he/she chooses to post or flounce. Whatever! It's the same for everybody, is it not?

With those fixtures, there is no reason why we shouldn't get top that target.  We do need a couple of additions though.

It’s a matter of opinion, I like his posts. Also, it was meant to be light hearted.

Well you never know Bruce could confound us all with his new system if he gets the right loans in.  I am always optimistic but maybe the pressure on him is not as great as last year and he might decide to just go for it as he knows he’s a dead man walking anyway 🤞
