Those still talking about sacking him appear to me akin to Jacob Rees-Mogg, so wedded to one single idea that they are unable, or unwilling, to see the bigger picture. Sacking Bruce now would be the equivalent of a no deal Brexit.

Save are club, Mr Bruce

For those saying it would be somehow better to sack him 12 games in, I mean I guess you could say it would be based on results, but IMO no more than right now would be.

It's not about Bruce though (as strange as that sounds) it's about making sure we get the next manager right, if this means we have 3-4 months to get a DoF, work out what parts of the Villa engine to salvage and what to replace and do a proper analysis of which players can adapt to play a new style and then get a manager who fits then it's probably worth the 10-12 games of Bruceball we'll have to face.  The one thing I trust Bruce to do is to muddle along being not quite good enough to be safe but not quite shit enough to leave us adrift, if we get to November within touching distance of the playoffs then we give the new guy every chance to push on and go for either another run at the playoffs or potentially the chance to catch the top 2.

It’s a win win.  He stays and gets us ‘there or thereabouts’ going into Christmas it’s a win.  Gets us off the kind of start we had under Di Matteo then he will be gone anyway.

My thoughts exactly.  These joint owners won't fuck about if we start this season like we did last.

Exactly - I would guess he's got 10 games grace from the meeting yesterday and he'll need to be top six to prevent the axe from falling.

Here's a bit more detail.

Very interesting. They sound like the level headed type of custodians the club has long since needed. Allied to their financial clout I'm feeling very optimistic for our beloved football club.

We're now the best team in the division barring the relegated ones, given that we finished higher than anyone else.

Clearly we've only lost our Goalkeeper, Centre Half and Captain, Striker and Winger with most assists, but we'll be fine.....

Changing managers mid season after a poor start will not get you promotion, that is a fact!
You have to start the season with momentum and continue that for the whole season, with the obvious couple of blips along the way.
You cannot mess about in this division and just expect to achieve promotion because you have better players.

Unfortunately circumstances have dictated that this season will probably be another consolidation season, which is no bad thing if the correct infrastructure is set in place for the long term.

Even with a few stereotypical Bruce loans and freebies I'd expect him or his replacement to get us top six, or is that unrealistic?

I fully understand why it’s frustrating that Bruce is still here, but to be honest if you think about it changing the manager when you haven’t sorted your executive infrastructure makes no sense. We need to be making good, not hasty decisions.

Clearly in an ideal world we would have had enough time to get the structure in place and then get a new manager. But timing has dictated priorities here. I’m sure whatever happens Bruce is only here for the relative short-term.

Agree. It speaks massive volumes for me how short the statement was. Hardly a glowing endorsement from the new owners

The most important thing is that the Club has been saved.
The price is that we have got to put up with Bruce and his failed, dull, unimaginative, tactically inept  football.
He doesn’t deserve to be managing Aston Villa but timing has been on his side.

They couldn't really say anything. He failed his task to achieve promotion despite having incredible resources at his disposal compared to his competitors.

He really shouldn't still be in the job, his £3m wage a year is far above what his talent deserves, hence why he's stuck around whatever has gone on around him. He's not stupid. Just very average. He will be here until he's fired some time around October I reckon and the process will begin again.

For a time, and likely not for long.

The new dilemma is do I fork out for AVTV again? :)

I'm with ya on this one....the (Saturday morning) hangovers hurt more than they used to...

It was a pretty shit service last year. Seems they're having another stab though...
