If there’s one thing we should be used to by now, it’s Fistface making excuses and bemoaning his lot in life.

Steve Bruce and Paul Lambert are slowly but surely amalgamating into some kind of gurning Glaswegian-Geordie nightmare in my mind, a mash-up of moaners who put more effort into developing mantras of justification for failure than actual football management.

Exactly this. Bruce is damned whatever he says or does.
Not sure thats the case tbh. Firstly, some humility in accepting a portion of the blame would have been nice. Secondly he would have been a lot better off telling the truth regarding the player sales but said we will not roll over and hand over our best assets for peanuts, we will get what they are worth or look at other routes for cash generation.
Finally, he could have issued a fucking war cry - he could have bigged up the achievements of the U23's last season and how they destroyed every competition they were in, said they ARE good enough and will shock the league next year with how good they are. He could have said how despite losing a couple of players we will still have a squad that will be full of internationals and the envy of 3/4s of the league and it will simply be a case of some of the other senior pros still here to step up and make sure they are the ones who have a season like Jack, or Chester or Adomah or Kodjia the year before.
He could have backed himself, his management team and the squad that he has built but he didn't. He sat there and downplayed our chances, absolved himself of blame, brought the expectations down and lined up his excuses for failing next season. That is what has pissed me off, not the honesty regarding player sales.
There's nothing he could have said about player sales that would have fooled anyone.  Our precarious position is common knowledge.

You make some fair points about being more positive.  Not many managers would be prepared to set them up for a fall like that though and I'm sure some would have accused him of being deluded if he had.  But yes, some more positive spin would have been good, particularly regarding the quality of the kids.

He is getting his excuses in, but I firmly believe the interview content will have been fully sanctioned by Xia.  The good Dr. is letting Bruce be his publci face/patsy now.

I can't believe some of the things i'm reading today ... conspiracy theories ?

A simple interview which told us nothing we didn't already know being torn apart looking for some hidden meanings .,,

JFC

I know it's been hotter than usual but, some of you really need either a holiday or a spell of psychic evaluation  ;D

in fairness to Bruce all managers are the same,
they have an unbreakable belief that nothing is their fault and no matter how badly they fail they still think they are the best in the world

In fairness, you seem to be the person getting the most wound up by all of this. Go and sit in the shade for half an hour

To be a manager at any decent level you have to have self-belief the size of a small planet. It's part of the job.

They must have that to succeed however disappointing thing with our recent appointees has been that they were prepared to compromise their beliefs and  happy to execute  childishly  stupid plans at the behest of CEO/DoF/Owners etc. whilst sitting on fat wages contracts.

You clearly haven't read this thread from the start, it's hilarious. I'm perfectly free of knots.

Proper gammon level mock outrage on almost every page.
