I see people saying avoiding relegation or not doing a Sunderland is all that can be expected of Bruce next season

I thought he spent around 30 mill which as I pointed out in my post was a lot of money in this league, but was told it was ‘no where near’ that much

so I ask how much was it then?

how much did the squad that will start next season cost to bring in ?

that’s why I’m not interested in loans or wages money as that was last season and it’s gone.
what will remain is all the players he brought, how m
the point I was trying to make was all the players that Bruce had bought are still with us.
the ones he picked the ones he thought were good enough improvements on what went before the ones he brought to build the bright new future will all probably be at the club for the start of the seasonuch did he spend ?

this for me is how a manager should be judged  on what he builds and how he spends the money he’s given
I admit I think Bruce is a walking disaster but if he didn’t spend anywhere near 30 mill I’d like to know as I’m doing him a disservice

According to Transfermarkt, in straight transfer fees he's bought 7 players - Hogan £9.5m, Bree £3.15m, Hourihane £3.15m, Lansbury £3.06m, Bjarnason £1.8m, Whelan £1.53m, and Elmohamady £900k - so £23.09m. I haven't included Taylor as he looked like a straight swap for Ayew.

To offset that he's offloaded about £36.25-38.25m depending on finding an accurate figure for Amavi - Gestede £6m, Westwood £5.2m, Veretout £6.3m, Baker £3.9m, Sanchez £2.7m, Bacuna £1.35m, Gollini £3.8m, and Amavi £7-9m. So a net spend of -£13.1-15.1m.

As others have said though, that's just straight numbers and doesn't reflect the relative future value of players brought in and those sold. I can't find details of loan values but perhaps they'd be balanced by players we've loaned out

Thank you

so he’s spent 23.9 mill + whatever Ayew was worth on players we will start next season with

So it’s not far of 30 mill then as I said

Not far off?

Tell you what, you under pay your mortgage provider by 20% and tell them it's close enough.

So you've valued Ayew at nothing?

I didn't have a problem with the Sam Johnstone loan personally. Yeah, it was a gamble but you could say signing an inexperienced Italian kid and throwing him straight in to a position as important as that was even more of a gamble.

Why would I value Ayew? Bruce didn't buy him. I'd value Taylor at nowt as that is what he's worth and what our outlay for him in transfer fees was.

Bruce hasn't spent anywhere near to 30m, so instead of saying sorry I was talking bollocks or sorry I'd just guessed, we've had pages of balloons trying to spin £23.9m into £30m.

Even Ryan Air wouldn't flog me a ticket to New York and drop me off in Halifax and think its moreorless there.

He's saying by giving them Ayew we effectively paid a fee for Taylor.  Given there was (I believe) a c£5m top up, I think it's reasonable to assume the real cost of taylor was c £2m.  Not that I ever thought he was worth that.

Assuming the rest of the maths is correct that would put the spend at c £26m.

Well no, we knocked money off Ayew's fee by accepting Taylor. We paid no remuneration for him. And we shouldn't be paying him wages either, but that's subjective.

We effectively paid for him by accepting a reduced fee for Ayew.  Whether it was a good signing or not (it wasn't) it is daft to attribute no outlay to a Welsh international we wanted to sign in a position where we were in need of cover.

But, going back to the maths it follows that if there was a c£5m top up payment for Awey, then again based on the previous quoted figures the total income in players sold was c £42.25m.  Which puts Bruce approx £16m in transfer credit.

So again whilst accepting some of the transfer dealings have been very poor, it does put some perspective on the often quoted 'most expensively assembled squad in the league' criticism.

We were also in the top ten teams in England last year for wage payments. I am not going round this argument again but it is worth repeting. Our wage bill was circa double what Burnley were paying.

you can’t value Taylor as a free gift just to suit your argument

I know you’ll fight tooth and nail to always be right,
I already said my 30 mill figure was picked up from on this site and also said that i was quite prepared to be put right on it

however been put right and accepting Taylor just came over free of charge as you suggest is just pathetic really

listen being right all the time is obviously more important to you than me even if it means a bit of fabrication so I’ll say you win

so just to make you feel a bit special here you go
he didn’t pay 30 mill he payed 23.9 m plus the free gift of Taylor

I wouldn't describe Taylor as a gift. I wouldn't say he cost us any money either, as our outlay for him was zip and we recouped a large fee for Ayew, who was crap too unfortunately.

Unless you think we paid 6 million for Taylor, which we didn't, Bruce hasnt spent close to £30m. Being 20% out and calling it close is a bit special.

I look forward to Premier League football next season, watching Sweden in the semis and hearing Prime Minister Corbyn latest on Brexit. Close enough innit.

You accept you were wrong. Good. Let's move on.

Bruce started the playoff final with £4.05m of his own signings.
Not a great endorsement of Bruce's eye for talent and securing it for Aston Villa. If Axel had been fit it may have been just £3.15m.
