Have to disagree with the got damn close last season.  Apart from always playing catch up all season none of my Villa supporting friends on here and at the play off final after the Boro play off and the first half an hour at Wembley thought it was ever going to be close.

Why would he want another go this season?

He's not a mug. The club will be completely rudderless this season and Bruce will be left to take the heat and answer for anything and everything as there will be no one else left to front up to the accusations and rumours. The playing side will be decimated, he's on a hiding to nothing.

even when we were on that really hot streak we never build up enough points to cushion us through another lean spell. Cardiff had one real blip but by then  had got enough on the board to always have some breathing space.

problem Bruce has next season is having to use all those players he actually bought

the ones he didn't buy the saleable ones Grealish, Chester maybe Kodja will probably be gone, no more money for expensive loans so the 30 mill he spent on his players will have to make do

he sold the players he didn't want and bought in his own players with the money to build his own team in his image and now he will have to play them and they are to a man very average to absolute shit

We'll have to agree to diaagree.

So you disagree with me when I suggest that it would be worse all round if he decides, in 4-5 weeks time, to walk away and leave us without a manager on the eve of the season? I've shown that he's not exactly known for being loyal to clubs where they're not doing things as he wants so there is clearly a realistic risk that he'll down tools and walk, I think you're just being contrary out of principle at this point because I'm not suggesting anything remotely controversial just that, if he's as pissed off with things as some of the media have suggested then I'd rather he left now.

To be fair Brian, you don't get much closer than losing by 1 goal in the playoff final except maybe losing on pens. I must admit though, I said throughout that I didn't think we'd do it, I started to believe after the Wolves game a bit and then when it was down to one game.
In terms of him wanting to have a go next season, I would say if the finances are such that he can shape a squad or team which is at least competitive he may do. Depends what's happening in the background really, but I hope losing out on Johnstone isn't the sign of things to come.

And i'm not suggesting anything more than having him here is the right thing for now, so like i said, we agree to diaagree.

the only way that could play out is if he believes he has a case for constructive dismissal surely? If he walks of his own volition then he walks, compo doesn't come into it

MO'N wasn't a case of constructive dismissal - he walked and he got a settlement from the club through engagement via LMA. Had the same or similar rolling contract Bruce has, too.

The only option for now as I see it is for Bruce to stay. He may well leave because he’ll be facing a barrage of stuff both good and bad but with whats happening right now and the new season just around the corner its our only choice surely.

I’d really like Dean Smith in because this club needs something new but only when this mess is sorted out.

I have thought about this and the only conclusion I can come up with is that it is to do with money.  He and his mates in the media could spin the line that he did very well to get the club to the play off final last season with what was going on behind the scenes, but things have gone too far now and he has had to walk.  He could have a nice summer off and get ready for when a Championship side or possibly even lower Premier League team get panicky and sack their manager early on in the new season.  The fact that he has not done that would suggest to the cynic in me (he might still well want the job for all we know) that there would be an issue with compensation should he walk.

Very much this. I'd rather we threw our transfer budget at getting Bruce out and him in.
He'd get a tune out of the first team and enough of the youth – without watching everyone get sold in Jan like he suffers now.

He would be mad to leave a secure position to take the job in the current circumstances when the ownership could change tomorrow and he be out on his ear.

I have an unprovable hunch that there may be more dosh down the back of his mother's sofa that we are giving him credit for.
