Simon Jordan talking about us now on Talksport. Apparently we'll be fine and Bruce is still the man to take us up. His only worry is if we don't go up next season we'll struggle for a while.

I have just finished listening to it. I think at the end I caught them saying the Talksport poll was 60/40 in favour of Bruce staying. I have a lot of time for Simon Jordan. His book was brutally honest and as a self made millionaire he came across as very impressive and no nonsense. He doesn't suffer fools. I have heard him speak about Villa more than once since our recent financial worries became public. He has, without going into too many details stated that he has some degree of inside/in depth knowledge of our plight. Today he has reiterated what he has said before. From whatever knowledge he has he strongly believes that with some clever cost cutting in certain areas we can not only survive a potential meltdown but also, with wise spending be challenging at the top again in the coming season. He speaks about us often enough and seemingly with enough information to back up what he says to make me think he has possibly been asked for advice by somebody high up in the club at some point and has maybe even been approached to become involved in some way. He has stated he would never want to own a club again after his experience at palace but I reckon he would fancy some kind of role with us.

I would guess that he knows Bruce well and that most of his info comes from him and those close to him around the club.

I believe we're looking for a CEO. Just something I've heard on the grapevine. ITK

Given the disasters we’ve had in that role, we deserve some luck in getting the right person. It will be the most important appointment of the summer.

Fucking Hell Louzie you seriously think Bruce ball has been fun to watch?  I genuinely can't fathom how.

As for blaming the players, they were, for the most part, Bruce's players, and Bruce's team.  On the playing side the buck stops with Bruce, it was his job to prepare, coach and motivate them appropriately.  He failed, plain and simple, and from where I was looking  it was about as entertaining as having deep root canal work.

I think you're grossly exaggerating.

23 wins, 70 odd goals, some dudd results, but loads of drama and excitement.

It was easily the most enjoyable season in 8 years.

Yes, totally over the top. There were some frustrating games in there but you'd be in a very small minority describing it as entertaining as 'deep root canal work'. If that's what you really thought, you should have probably saved your money and not bothered going.

As for Bruce leaving, I don't think right now is the time. Sorting the turmoil off the pitch should be the priority.

I often did save my time and money, like any rational consumer would when not satisfied with the product.   I don't find watching  largely negative laboured low tempo plodding hoofball fits in with my idea of a good day out, or value for money.   If you enjoyed it good for you, maybe I just have higher standards, but just a look at this thread will tell you I'm far from alone in finding Bruce's brand of football awful to watch.     And as I pointed out in a post the other day, the majority of our games involved us scoring 1 or nil.  The goals for figures are skewed by a relatively few games where we bagged a few 4s and a 5.  I unfortunately managed to miss most of those latter games, but there really weren't that many of them.

I wouldn't say the football was great because it wasn't but I wouldn't compare it with going to the dentist either.

It appears that Simon Jordan is co hosting on Talksport with Danny Kelly (who is always worth listening to) between one and four tomorrow. I will be staggered if Villa aren't discussed at some point, possibly at  length.

The failure of Aston Villa to achieve PL status ultimately does not rest solely with Steve Bruce.

Of course we can be angry with the players - but sorry yes it does fall at the Managers feet our failure. The whole season was not about just 1 game

Agreed. He talks sense.

if you can forgive the permatan, the vanity and the hair he would be good to get on board in some form of consultancy for any new owners

Also whilst I agree he went a big way in removing the cancerous element from the club that contributed heavily to its eventual downfall he did so by keeping the most expensive players away from the squad whilst they were earning vast sums. He should have been made to make them earn their corn rather than replace one managers expensive mistakes with his own .
