Would you fall on your sword and walk away from a pay off?

If i knew the expectation when i took the job, and i didn't need the money and it wouldn't affect my future chances of employment then i'd like to think so. I'd certainly offer my resignation.

Of course you would. Everyone would walk away from a year's wages.

And very laudable, what about knowing that if you resign then the back room staff you bought with you will also be out of work?

You probably would not be able to walk away if you'd fallen on a sword, unless you were lucky and it missed all your vital organs.

Managers have offered their resignations before. As i said if i was skint and thought i wouldn't get another gig then yeah i probably wouldn't. if i was in Bruce's position i'd like to think i would

No one would walk away from a 40k a week contract realistically. Bruce included. He's a good bloke, deserves a bit of peace to mourn his parents and then needs to outline his plans to move us forward or part ways.

well his team have been in the game a long time and know the score. They'd still get their pay-off. End of the day, what's less damaging to someone's career path? Getting to the play-offs and leaving in an amicable parting of the ways in August, or maybe operating on a zero budget and getting the boot in November?

The Telegraph claim to have a exclusive with no communication between Xia and Bruce since Wembley and Bruce ain't happy about it.

If will be deplorable if  Bruce walks out because of FFP constraints but every cloud has a silver.....

Is that a bit like missing all your objectives?

He's on holiday and the season only ended a week ago. I wouldn't overly trust an article with zero sources quoted and thinks the play off final was over 2 weeks ago.

Depends what prompted the article really. SB could've phoned Percy and encouraged him to put an article out like that to put pressure on the club to make a decision either way.

Edit: Didn't see who wrote it but saw it was Telegraph and assumed it would be John Percy who is usually pretty accurate with our stuff.

Percy isn't going to put his name to that article, not unless he doesn't want to remain AVFCs journalist of choice.

Aye, and you have to ask why Bruce isn't. If he genuinely feels he can get us up this season then okay, i think he's delusional but top marks for ambition.. But we all know how it works - if he leaves now the next desperate championship/premiership club will see Play-off final and they won't go "well he failed with the biggest squad/wage bill in the championship" Likewise if he get's sacked next season, they won't see, "well he was scratching around with no money with 6 first team players gone from the previous season". They will just see "sacked in mid/lower-table". Waiting for a pay-off methinks, but has no intention of actually staying.

I wonder who fed the press the story!  Looks to me like he's wanting the push. I'd be happy to oblige but I honestly wonder if Xia is really trying to make every penny count and doesn't want to pay compo.

If Xia wants Bruce gone, then do the right thing and say it, pay him up and get on with the job in hand. This is no time for pissing about. I mean, he’s been happy to pay Richards and Gabby for doing fuck all for two years, yet this is infinitely more important.
