Hernandez would be a decent signing. Odubajo is a good player if fit. Dawson was brilliant against us this season and we need a centre half! It would be nice to have a manager that actually has a go though.

I don't know a whole lot about Dean Smith, but for what it is worth his stats on Wiki aren't too brilliant...

Team         From                        To                             P      W      D      L     Win %
Walsall       4 January 2011         30 November 2015    260    84    96    80    32.31
Brentford    30 November 2015    Present                    128    51    29    48    39.84

Bruce by comparison :                                                 89    42    19    28    47.2

That’s not really comparing like with like though.  Who did a better job this year, Sean Dyche or Arsene Wenger?

Brentford have spent a million quid or more on a player about 4 times in their history, and still managed to play us off the park 3 out of 4 games. The win percentages at their current clubs for the likes of Dyche, Howe and Wagner are at a similar percentage to Smith at Brentford, but you have to take into account the club they are doing it at.

Only lost one game more at Brentford despite playing 39 games more than Bruce at Villa.Took over Walsall when they were NINE points adrift at the bottom,so winning games with such a team would be difficult.Left them in fourth place, promoting youngstrrs and playing a passing game.

Hence why I said "for what it is worth". But for a moment allow me to play Devil's Advocate...if DS has been so outstanding and could have done so much more/better without the Brentford ceiling, why has no other club come in for him and given him the opportunity and room to grow ?

I’m not sure Dean Smith is the right man if Bruce goes, but I think he would at least be on a list of candidates.  Having seen Brentford a few times, he has got them playing good football and has got them to a more than respectable position in the table.  He has been in a position there where each summer he has seen his better players sold, but has still managed to improve the side.

I wouldn't say he's outstanding but he seems to play decent attacking football, has tactics (novel approach I know) and develops teams...and we have lacked all three of those qualities for....err, quite some time.

Partly because it's only his second season at this level. I'd also imagine it's because very few top flight clubs appoint from the lower leagues these days and there's not many clubs at this level that would be a notable step up and are looking for a new manager.

I'd be wary of him coming mainly because i'd be worried the job would do for him as he's Villa and seems a really nice bloke.

It was widely thought West Brom had him as number one target until Moore got those points and made himself impossible to remove

I'd like Dean Smith. I know it's a different era and football has changed dramatically, but lots said the job would be too big for Gregory too. He might fail or he might succeed, he might also be our best bet to get away from the inevitable decline in position and quality of football if we hold on to Bruce.

I doubt he'd be given the time. It would take him 2 seasons to get a side he wants and mount a challenge, maybe more if we're buying on the cheap. People's expectations versus financial reality.....well i don't think he'd get much slack.. It would be "Bruce got this team to the play-offs etc..."

For me, Bruce should be given three seasons, and that means another throw of the dice.

There is logic when You consider.
1. He knows the squad
2. It represents stability.
3.He is backed by Wyness.
4.We are skint so they can avoid compensation for him and the back room staff.
5. FFP means we are not in a position to pay compensation.
6. Attracting a new manager without a Transfer budget will prove extremely difficult particularly when you consider the deadwood that is still lying around and that the loan players will be let go.
I don’t think any one should be surprised if they stick with him.
What a mess.

The best way of spending the last of the parachute payments would be on his compensation.
It doesn’t work like that, sadly.

In an indirect way, yes it does.
You seem to struggle to understand basic accounting.

Go on then, explain it.

You'll have a long wait.
