I've been generally supportive of Bruce.  I certainly feel many people massively underestimate quite what he has achieved in turning us round from perpetual failures to a successful team, at the same time coping with a pretty horrendous injury list.

So yes, if he's promoted he has earned his shot at the PL and I've absolutely no doubt Tony would keep him on.  With that said, I agree he does seem limited and if someone more progressive like Jakanavic, Dyche, Howe, Benitez or maybe even Wagner became readily available, I'd lose my sentimental attachment to Bruce pretty quickly.

If we don't go up I'd give him another shot.  I think he has us on the right track and now the team is settled, even with losing a few of the squad to balance the books I would feel pretty confident he'd get us as close as anybody could next year.

Yeah that pretty much sums up how I feel. Even though I remember calling him a  footballing dinosaur
earlier in the season. My bad.

# wrong thread I know but for anyone who's interested they're already removing old pitch ready for the new one.

It's a bummer when that happens 👆but I don't know how to rectify it.

I'm not sure about this underestimating thing.  It's true that we had been shit for a long time before he arrived but if you look at the squad he inherited and then add on the freedom he had in the transfer market I think any competent manager would've got us into the playoffs. That's not denying that his record has been good, and he's very close to doing the job he was employed to do, but I don't think it's a particular massive achievement either.

I think most sensible supporters would agree with this.

It's just conjecture though isn't it?  The squad he inherited was disjointed, unbalanced and massively under performing.  I'm not sure 'any competent manager' would have achieved the payoffs.  Indeed I strongly suspect many otherwise competent managers would have struggled to stop the downwards trajectory.  But of course we'll never know.  What we do know is we have a stable team with good morale, excellent worth ethic and 1 win from promotion.  I suspect most people outside of internet fan forums think that is a major achievement.

I'm disappointed that we've not gone straight up but I'm not going to knock him for the job he's done overall. I think sticking with when some fans wanted him out after a few months was the right thing to do.

All I can say is be careful for what we wish for. The club needs stability not a change of manager at the first point of failure

We need to get on with squad rebuilding as soon as the final finishes - whatever league we are in . With the World Cup and a shortened transfer window it doesn't leave a lot of time to ship people out and bring them in
