Aston Villa finishing 4th in division 2 is never a success imo.

So finishing 4th is success for the manager but not the club?

Thinking of alternatives I think we can rule Rowett out. They were shite today and have been for months looking at their results. Blues used to hit the wall when he was in charge as well. He's like MO'N without the charisma.

I saw a stat yesterday, which I now can't find and haven't the time to research, that suggests if we win our last two games we'll have more points than in any of Bruce's promotion seasons. We're already ahead of two of the four.

So Bruce could have a better season than he's ever had yet not get promoted.
Bruce has not achieved more than 1.85 points per game. After the draw today the best he can do is 1.86. This is of course why we are not auto promoted. Bruce has succeeded  in the past when there were no outstanding teams around.

It's going to get tougher next season with the three clubs coming down, Wigan and Blackburn coming up, the likes of Blues, Forest and one or two other performing better.  If we don't go up and Bruce stays, we have to hit the ground running.  Fortunately, the transfer window closes before the season begins and that hopefully means a more settled squad right from the off.

Finishing 4th then going up via the playoffs is not exactly failure. IF it happens.

Fair play, you're consistent.

I never said it was, if we do that then it's a push for me and more a case of job done rather than success. If we finish 4th and lose in them then it's failure.
However the poster said Bruce was a success when to me he isn't as we'll be finishing 4th and even if I viewed winning the play-offs as a success (I don't obviously) then it hasn't happened yet.

Having four promotions to your name is pretty good going. Trying to find fault in that is bit petty to be honest.
