I never said they'd be shitting themselves, but I have little doubt they'd prefer to avoid us. I wouldn't shit myself if we played Fulham, i'd prefer not to play them though.

It's all but secured our placed in the top 6, it's a big step towards being top 4 and the advantage of the second leg at home, it's increased the chances of playing Cardiff rather than Fulham in the play-offs, and having beaten the top 3 at VP shows we have no need to fear anyone over 2 legs and no one will fancy a trip to VP in the play-offs. But apart from that it was a meaningless win.

play-offs are a lottery. everyone knows that.. Are they fearing us over 2 legs? nope.

And you know that how, exactly?

because we're no better than anyone else? i wouldn't say there was zip in quality between 2nd and 8th

I wouldn't care either way. We still have to beat them to go up whether its the semi's or the final

I’ve just about finished jumping up and down around the kitchen after tonight’s result.

I have raised a glass to the mighty Villa and, whilst recognising that some fans take refuge in a sort of nihilistic realism for emotional support in a time of imminent divisional flux; personally I have more fellow feeling with Olaftab.

I JUST LOVE VILLA WINNING! 💕 💖 💗

Well we don't as they may go up automatically. Aided by our totally meaningless victory tonight ;)

no problem with Villa winning, but it's just like Man U going mad because they beat Man City last weekend. Great in a sort of closing the stable door after the horse has fucked off with the title. Yeah its nice, but's it's pointless because we blew it over the last month. Everyone expects us to get a play-off place win, draw or lose against cardiff even if its not mathematically confirmed so excuse me if i don't get excited about the real possibility of being a championship side that beat both the promoted teams.. I'd have swapped tonight's win for victories against forest, and bolton

hahahah. yeah, they were larfing at me on the promotion maths thread for saying 7 points off 2nd at the start of April wasn't too far off. If i was wildly optimistic, I don't know what they'd make of you 8)

I don’t know that I’d have swapped them, they all would have been useful. We are where we are, though, so I am very pleased that the chance is still there to get somewhere.

We didn't blow it over last month, we've blown it over a season. The good news for us is there's this really stupid rule whereby instead of promoting the top 3, the teams in third to sixth get to fight it out.

We live another day. And with our squad it would be shameful not at least to be there, especially as we've tried to buy our way out this bloody league. Let's not be the laughing stock, let's go out there and show them it was a smart investment.

I'd imagine most would agree that being in the play-offs is good compared to being 7th or lower. Second leg at home would be good. Having Cardiff instead of Fulham in the play-offs would also be good. All of which were aided by us winning tonight.

I dunno PWS. To me barring a disaster we've been in the play-offs for ages. As for who plays whom first, I don't really care.  I'd swap the 2nd leg at home for the opposition losing a key player to injury and an appalling ref who secretly admires Villa. Like i said, its a lottery.

If we'd lost tonight we'd have 4 points from the last 18 and that disaster could have been happening. Which to me is one of the reasons why winning tonight does matter as it's put to bed any thoughts and worries of us collapsing out of the top 6.

well yeah, that's the first well thought-out reason i've heard why winning tonight mattered in any way. Still, last time we beat a team in a automatic  promotion spot............ ;)

Fucking hell sickbeggar - I hope you wake up today in a better mood.

Last night won't make a difference to whether we go up automatically but it was FUN which at the end of the day is the only point in watching football.

If you can't enjoy a victory because you're still sulking about the fact we lost to QPR a month ago I think you're better off finding another hobby.
