We've lost 10 games. Last season Newcastle also lost 10, Brighton 9 and Huddesfield 13 (with a minus goal difference). I wonder if any if their fans would have advocated sacking their managers 5 games before the end of the season.
Whilst you were checking that did you not see how many games Newcastle and Brighton won?

I did, but if I mentioned that it would have ruined my argument. Still don't think Bruce should be sacked though, not even at the end of the season.

think Bruce has had enough anyway
I think he might well walk at the end of the season no matter what

I get the feeling he’s doing his best but knows he’s not good enough now and is just going through the motions especially after all his personal family problems

he looks spent to me, i might be reading it all wrong but he’s hardly leading a charge from the front I think he’s gone and he knows it

if we get up via the play offs it will be his swansong
It’s just the way I’m seeing it right now

Bielsa is available...

There’s a reason for that.

It's a bit of a tradition on here to mention Bielsa when talking about future Villa managers. It'll never happen...

Very simple really. If he gets us promoted he deserves a shot at the premiership. If he doesn't I am undecided, but I am so bored with the manager merry go round that I'm not convinced we could unearth a hidden gem that easily.

The fact remains that despite the recent disappointments, this season has be the most enjoyable for many a year, and for that Bruce deserves credit. I suppose my expectations are probably lower than most. Sorry.

You could flip that and say could we do worse than failing to be promoted twice? Something Bruce would be only the second Villa manager to 'achieve'. And being the 'best' season we've had for a while is like Stephen Ireland being player of the year imo.

He's done a good job straightening us out, we've been a shambles top to bottom for too long and that is not the case now, regardless of a poor run that has cost us at the worst time.

But we've failed to hit the heights we should consistently, given what we have available. I think the squad is a bit imbalanced, and he did decent business last summer with not massive funds, but then he's spunked a fair whack on Lansbury, Hogan, Taylor and Bjarnason who have been largely gash.

So, in we don't go up I'd change him provided we had our first choice lined up. But it won't come to that anyway because Kodja will fire us to play off glory.

Bruce has persuaded the club to take the route he planned. It's not over yet but if we fail to go up through the play offs, then Bruce will be responsible for the shit that follows. Cutting costs dramatically with aging players and too many loans, snubbed younger players, our best players likely to be sold to cut costs etc. Let's wait and see what happens.

I’m with you on this. I’ll say it quietly but I’ve enjoyed this season so far. And its not over yet.

It would be complete madness to appoint a new manager with five, possibly eight games to go but putting somebody else in charge for those five/eight games is tempting. Very. The summer is when we need to find a new manager but between now and then it's very tempting to consider finding a caretaker. The only problem I see is that it would have to be somebody from within and right now I can't think of anybody.

So by default, Bruce probably has to stay. Tuesday night will be a big indicator as to where we're going and how our season will pan out. I just hope Bruce has the strength to give himself one last push and finish his career on a high. He's many things but he's always been a fighter and at least at the Villa, he's always responded positively when he's cornered and his job is on the line.

I’m still smarting about our performance Saturday. We screwed up against both Bolton and Hull and offered the same level of performance against Norwich. The players take the blame lmainly but we should have been fired up and pressed Norwich continuously who would have buckled had we done so.

I think Bruce's attitude is infecting the fans as much as the players at the moment. See out the season and if we don't go up, meh? Well i for one will be exceedingly pissed off if we're sitting here in May still in the championship after bowing out of the play-offs with a whimper. We've got the worse recent form of any of our rivals, we're getting rolled over by average or worse championship teams, but forget that, stick with Bruce. Mental imo
