I couldn't care less what anyone else has done. It's what's best for Aston Villa.

To get the maximum benefit from new manager bounce we should have a different person in charge for every single game.

Has anyone at any time sacked a manager while his team is in the Playoffs? (Assuming we qualify)
We’ll just have to see what happens!

Scunthorpe sacked their manager a couple of weeks ago when they were 5th.

That's the logical conclusion! New manager bounce is merely a myth in my opinion. People mostly forget the new managers that struggle in their first few games.

Yeah, but the expectations on the manager of a club like that are a lot higher.

The target this season should have been the title, with second, not the play-offs, the minimum requirement.

Pretty amazing anyone could think that sacking the manager now is either a. desirable or b. within the realms of possibility.

I am far from convinced by Bruce, but whilst in a play off position, with five games of the regular season to go, sacking the manager?

That's the sort of thing shitty plastic clubs like Crystal Palace do.

On the other hand you have to ask yourself a. does he look like he can change things around and b. would anybody else do any worse?

It's Catch 22 for me. Damned if we do, damned if we don't. What a mess.

Anyone else would have to be recruited, installed, familiarised with the set up, get his own team in, get them up to speed, and get better results than the incumbent manager all in the space of five matches.

Not a prayer.

Got to agree. It would be insane to get rid now.

If it's that simple why's there such a thing as a new manager bounce?

Which is a myth. To think any manager is going to come in with the upheaval of a manager departing and in the space of a few games turn it all around and secure promotion miraculously isn’t realistic. And a new manager as we’ve seen this season alone with us doing Pulis and Karanka isn’t something to rely on making this all better again.

I’m still grappling with how the Wolves game seems to have been a bit of a watershed moment: we played possibly our best game and yet have effectively melted down.
This has to be a combination of poor team selection, poor game management, player-motivation, player complacency to lack of focus ... and all of these, and other reasons, have to be the responsibility of manager and coaches. I’m not advocating a change now because I don’t see either the benefit of doing so or the alternative; but, at the season’s end He should go.

the Wolves game was the best performance best atmosphere and best day out since the Liverpool Wembley semi

unfortunately it was a one off and we soon went back to playing like the real Villa

If you look at the few games before and after that though:

Fulham away - underwhelming performance, deserved defeat.
Preston home - average performance, deserved draw
Sheffield Wednesday away - poor perfomance espeically first half, undeserved away win
Sunderland away - didn't see this but believe we played well, so will put this down to deserved win
Wolves home - brilliant performance, well deserved win
QPR home-poor performance, deserved defeat
Bolton away - poor performance, deserved defeat
Hull away - average performance, deserved draw
Reading home - good performance albeit against 10 men for most of the match, deserved win
Norwich away - dismal performance - deserved defeat.

So in the last 10 matches, we've taken 14 points from 30 which is mid table mediocrity form, and played well in about 3.5 games.

So basically a quarter of the deason, when it's getting to the business end has been really quite rubbish.

I'd say that's a bit generous on the Preston game. I thought we were poor and got an undeserved point

It's down to probability. Teams that sack their managers have generally been on a bad run, so they sack their manager just as the form was due to turn and the new man gets the credit.

Bielsa is available...

There’s a reason for that.
