You real a patronising (blank) aren't you?

Hogan was bought because he scored a lot of goals and had a great strike rate, pretty much what any team needing a striker will look for. Just because he's not working particularly well in our system doesn't make him shit.

Why are you white knighting again and why is pointing out that comparing Hogan to Messi is absurd patronising?

I didn't say he was shit (but you've got form for reacting to things without reading them properly) I said he's a terrible footballer, and explained why.  I also said he's an effective striker in a very specific team setup but you couldn't get all offended on behalf of other people if you actually paid attention.  Oh and for the record this is intentionally patronising because the last time you did this it got dull quickly so I'm cutting straight to the end.

While i understand the thinking that Bruce has signed these loan players to get us up, the fact remains that if we don't go up, however good or not they've been is irrelevant. If the mutterings from the board are correct and we're really gonna feel FFP next season (I thought all the loan signings and free transfers were us feeling it now!), then in reality we have got a squad totally unprepared to mount a challenge in the championship next season,

I can't see snodgrass staying because we couldn't afford him, likewise Johnson and both of them i expect to attract some clubs with money this summer.after playing well for us.  Onamah i wouldn't keep anyway. Grabbon could possibly be a signing if he's not that expensive, but again i wouldn't expect us to be the only club to go in for him

End of the day, the actual squad that we own at the start of next season is as follows:

Keeper

Bunn
Steer
Golloni ?

Taylor
Chester
Elphick
Bree
Richards (HAHAHAHAH)
Elmohmady
De Laet ?

Whelan (past it)
Lansbury
Grealish
Horihane
jedinak (past it)
Bjarnson
Adomah
Gardner ?
Gill?
Tshibola

Hogan
RHM
Davis
Kodja
McCormack

Now i don't know about you, but that as the basis to mount a challenge to get out the Championship scares the hell out of me, let alone Bruce being in charge of it. I'm presuming he'd also be asked to bring through the youth players to make us some of the spaces (facepalm). Now i can't see anyway we're gonna generate the money to bring in more players unless we sell the likes of Kodjia so we're gonna be looking for free transfers or loan signings again. Now if we're gonna be in full-on poverty mode then i think id prefer someone who's gonna try and play football and with a record of bringing youth players through. Certainly not Bruce, and looking at that squad i'd think he wouldn't fancy it either

If you're going to include RHM in that lot, then I think you should rightly also include Sarkic, Lloyd-Hayes, McKirdy, O'Hare and possibly Clark and Suliman since they have all been in the League Cup squad or are close to getting a run-out.
But your overall point is reasonable: as a squad, it lacks a fizz-factor (unless another management / coaching team can get more out of this bunch of players).

I did think about including more of the youth but i really have no faith at all in Bruce doing anything with them.  Personally I don't think he has any trust in them and would much prefer to go along the cheap old pro signings and stop gap loans

Surely losing the salaries of the loan signings will bring in some spending money? We also have £9m as a last parachute payment and money from the Amavi deal. Add to this any bonus money from our eventual finishing place and being on tv so many times and I think we must have something to spend surely? I appreciate some of that might go towards paying high wages but we should have a bit to spend? Also including merchandise sales too?

Buy Snodgrass straight away please!

well i think you have to ask whether we'll have as much as this season. I mean Bruce has hardly splashed the cash. He's spent 2.8m since july on Terry, Samba, Whelan and Elmohamady as well as the loans. At the same time he got back 15m  from sanchez, vertout, bacuna and baker. Take out that 15m coming in and you tell me where the signings are gonna come from? Even with the likes of Terry, Hutton and Gabby off the wage bill it's gonna be tough.

We'll lose something around £15-20m from this year.  Losing Snodgrass, Johnstone, Grabban, Onomah, Tuanzebe as well as Hutton, Gabby and a few others (maybe Terry still if his wages are too much) might save us up to half of it, and the Amavi sale, after going through accounting, will cut into it further but we'll have all of that lot to replace so we'll need a couple of sales that give us a profit over their amortised value to give us the room to bring people in.  That's why I'm worried they'll see people like Green and Grealish as good choices to move on because they count as pure profit in this regard, just like Baker last summer.

Whichever way you look at it, not going up this season will be catastrophic.

Prize money isn't much down here, mainly because there isn't any based on league position. Just TV related payments. Last season we received £6.9m. Broken down like this, every club receives the first 2 payments. Last season it was an additional £100k for each live home game on TV and 10K away for games, I doubt it's changed much this season.

Basic award: £2.084m
Solidarity payment: £4.3m
Money for being on TV: £520,000
Total: £6.9m

Them's some powerful sobering sums.

If you're going to go the wolves route of chucking a fortune at it, you sure as hell need to make sure you get it right first time.

If you've come down, you could do with getting back up before the parachute money's gone.

If you've lived down here for a while and no one's prepared to bung you a few quid, you're going to have to rely on actual talent and/or acumen to get you up.

The clock is ticking on the second option. It's still a long way from running out, but if we don't make it, would we have a stab at the first? Have I lost all faith in our ability to get the third right? Will I ever get my old seat back?

Ups and downs, it's what it's all about, football, innit. I'd probably be bored with winning all the time, anyway...

What really scares me is the prospect of another 17 point year in the Premiership.

That was a long time coming, Bri. It had an inevitability about it when it arrived, a final coming to fruition of a conspiracy of woeful circumstances. It won't happen again.

How competitive we'll actually be, well, I'd rather find out sooner than later. But I do know I'd prefer to  be pissed off about losing twice in a week to bottom half Premier sides that are miles behind us rather than Championship ones.
