Onomah has been a bit patchy as you'd expect from a young kid.  But then look at his link up play with Grealish in the passage leading up to Grealish being booked for diving, and you'll see he has some real quality as well.

Onomah has some real quality but it's better when he's playing in the Hourihane role, further forward he does get in the box but he provides nothing in terms of creativity.

I get your meaning, but then it was his attacking play that teed Grealish up for what would have been a goal attempt, and should have been a penalty.  In my opinion Onomah is a box to box all action type, and isn't a winger or forward at all.  In the Patrick Vieira style, although nowhere near that level yet.

Like a lot of young players on loan from PL clubs he can be as good as he likes, but if his heart's not in it he's a passenger for the majority of games, barring one or two flashes of ability, and that's all I've seen from his time at Villa.

Absolutely, he's better coming onto the ball at pace and driving through the middle, the more intricate stuff of getting the ball with 2-3 men around and finding a way out is where he looks lost (and Grealish excels).  As I say, I'd keep him on the bench but he'd be my cover for Hourihane or replacement for BB if we need to be more attacking.

I'd go:

Johnstone
Elmohamady Chester Terry Hutton
Bjarnason
Snodgrass Onomah Grealish Albert
Hogan

Subs:

Bunn
Tuanzebe
Taylor
Hourihane
Jedinak
Davis
Green

If Grabban is any way fit, swap him in for Taylor.

Swap Onomah for Hourihane. Need to have a bit more experience in the centre of the park for this one.

I would seriously be considering Tuanzebe over Elmo. The rest remain the same.

I think Elmo is one of our better players, and has been a bloody good signing for £1m.

Elmo is a bit shy in 50/50 and sunday I think there is going to be lots of contended balls.

Provides too many assists to be dropped.

Agree and I would definitely consider swapping him for Hourihane on Sunday.  Either that or push Bjarnason further forward and bring Jedinak back in to shore things up a bit.

Is Snodgrass a doubt?

I wouldn't play Onomah. His performance in the game at their place was one of the worst I've ever seen in a Villa shirt. Hourahane is hit and miss but I'd keep the same team.

I agree but I'd chnage the bnech and then I'd look at resting Hourihane for a game or 2 later in the month.
