I had no issue with the Bruce appointment, boring as it was, at the time. However in retrospect the whole 'promotion specialist' is a daft concept. We'd be far better having a coherent strategy that runs through the club and everyone buys into. That's what works when it's done right, see Burnley or Swansea (before they unravelled and abandoned that strategy). Man City are another example at the other end of the scale, obviously they've spent a lot of money but it's also been done with a plan in mind. You can see other clubs spending similar amounts with nowhere near the results on the pitch.

Villa need to get a strategy together rather than bumbling around from one transfer window to the next making rubbish short-term signings.

Keep him for the next two games because of how close together they are. Sack him at 7.30 NYD and then we have just under two weeks before our next league game to put someone in place.

Nah - sack him after Boro game on the oft chance of NYD Bumper Package hammering of BrizzleBoys

Apologies if this has been posted already but I’ve just been made aware of it.

It’s stunning just how similar this is to what we are currently going through with Bruce. He just has to go.

The Man City plan looks superb now but it never started that way. Remember the club was sold to Shinawatra who turned out to be a crook and in the end sold it to the current owners. Shinawtra’s first managerial appointment was Stuart Pearce. Over time and many managers and huge, huge investment and ultimately success they earned the right to appoint Guardiola. We are a million miles from that of course but it always starts somewhere and almost invariably there is some measure of failure along that path.

Like you, I get why we hired Bruce to achieve a goal. Had it worked out I would have thought at some point he would be replaced by someone to take us on further. So a long term strategy doesn’t have to mean the same guy for a long time but just an approach or series of tactical decisions that leads to the achievement of a long term strategy.

Holy friggin' Jesus.
I may have read this before - cannot remember, TBH - but it is obviously something that Wyness et al did not read before appointing the man. There are some breath-taking observations in this article that should warn many Chairmen / CEO off hiring him.

Regarding that article Steve Bruce being appointed in the PL was a nailed on disaster. If there was a board arguably worse than the one we had it was that lot. Appointing him in the Championship came with a lot less risk and should have come with more certainty.

Wow. De-ja-bloody-vu. The bloke is a real life version of groundhog day. Makes the decision to employ him look very very dodgy. He's clearly not learned a single thing from past mistakes. I always thought he had a fight with Mcormack. Now I'm even more convinced especially when I think back to his interview when his face was battered. That's total dereliction of duty when you consider how desperate we are for a striker.

I would guess they all have in recent times, if that means not getting sacked after the 6th game itself. RDM, Garde, Dim Tim all managed it surely?

The article references his tactics, brand of ‘football’ and signings who he doesn’t play. Not to mention his twattish comments to the clubs fans. None of these things are league specific! Bad management/coaching is bad management/coaching!
