A front 4 of Hogan, Grealish, Green and Adomah with Snodgrass and Davis in the mix should work but Bruce needs to trust the 6 behind them to do the defensive work so they have the freedom to play.  That's what's holding us back in my opinion, everything is too regimented and static and the wide players get drawn deep far too easily.

I agree about the front four Paul and would add O'Hare to the list.  The midfield two in that set up would need to be pretty mobile and cover a lot of ground though, something that Whelan, Lansbury, Jedinak and maybe even Hourihane would struggle to do.

Hourihane and Onomah would be my choosing. Both box to box and mobile, but I think we will see Wheelan anchor it. If we're having plenty of the ball and with Grealish in the side we ought to, then I don't think there is a problem with that.

Exactly right, which is why I want him to play Onomah deeper and why I still think Whelan was the wrong signing for us, despite him playing ok.  I'd have preferred to see Doyle-Hayes and Lyden getting some time in there as both of them seem to have that extra mobility.

I agree about Onomah and think he is more suited to that role.  I still maintain that Whelan would be fine as a holding midfielder in a three, but he struggles a bit in a two.  I liked the look of Doyle-Hayes in the League Cup game against Middlesbrough, but he hasn't been seen since.

That does sound a decent looking front four. Maybe at some point this season he will try it.

Watching Bristol City tonight and maybe an extreme example but from the first minute they were on the front foot, commited men forward and believed they could win.

It was still a pretty strong Man. United team aswell.

I could just imagine the tactics and manner SB would send us out if we played a team of that calibre. The issue is we play like that against mid table teams in this league.

We better wise up as we might have to play Bristol over two legs in a play off.

Approaching 600 pages and he's still here. I'll bet we get to a thousand. Still in this division, stuck with him.
Merry Christmas all 😂

This is my major criticism with the current setup. Teams against us often look busier and more energetic. Leeds are not as good as us, their players aren't better than ours, but in the first half of the recent away game they came at us all guns blazing. It fizzled out eventually but it was enough to give them an early advantage. We often look pedestrian in comparison.
I want Bruce to succeed but we need to get more urgent and I can't see that happening with the way we are setting out for games.

I'd have two: Bristol City.

To be fair to Bruce (God it hurts to write that), this is a problem we have had for many years, our pedestrian approach to games, mind you, take that being fair to Bruce back, as he has done naff all about it.
