He won't be gone if we get promoted. Not a chance.

I hear you but people can change their minds or have them changed for them.

Wyness likes him and picked him. Promotion is his objective. If he achieves it then he will still be here next season. For a while anyway.

I agree, but I don't think it will be much beyond that given what we already know of his record in the PL. The massive concern for me if we do go up is Xia's comments on having to spend to compete and by extension buying in players identified by Bruce vs a manager who we will look to go to later on. I just don't trust him operating in any capacity at that level.

He left Hull a month after getting them promoted.

He didn't get the boot though. Nor was it because he recognised that he can't do it in that league. He pissed off because the owners wouldn't sanction a spending spree.

And this was always the danger, and likelihood, of going short term to try and get back up ASAP rather than root and branch change, with the introduction of a thought out footballing philosophy. Not only that but this "build 3 teams" bollocks is a vastly more expensive way to go about things.

Take a look at the squad and contract expirey dates, that is one hell of a rebuilding job.
The problem is that this regime did not complete the clear out needed and have added to the problem.
Expensive players on long term contracts with little or no residual value + FFP constraints + declining revenue streams = Financial Basket case.

Who knows what was going on behind the scenes though?  It's perfectly plausible the Hull owner told him they didn't trust him to spend the money wisely and he stropped off.  It's effectively a sacking and there's nothing stopping Dr Tone doing the same.

Phelan got fuck all to spend either and they started the season with a first team squad of about 13 senior players. It wasn't a question of "We don't trust you to spend it" and more "We have zero intention of spending it".

Indeed. Xia was out of the country at the time of Bruce's appointment and I've always seen him as Wyness' man; your comments a few months back only confirmed my fears. As for promotion, I would have thought automatic promotion would have tied Bruce into next season but the lottery of the play offs, even if we are successful, isn't the type of gamble planned, even for a Chinese, not that I see Xia as a gambling man. I'd guess it'll come down to how we finish the second half of the season. If it's a repeat of the first half, even with play off success, I don't see how any sane person would want Bruce to continue next season.

It will be Xia's call and nobody elses. As I mentioned yesterday, I can see Xia going for somebody like Villas-Boas, not that we need to worry about next season in the Premiership right now.

I don't see why anyone would want to keep Bruce if we fell over the line in the play offs either. But I will happily take a wager that the club won't be wishing him on his way if we do.

I have a feeling that if we are struggling to get into the play off spots or simply clinging on for dear life to a spot come March he'll get the bullet. His recent moaning about not having much to spend is a small indication that the board even if they could back him aren't really going to. At least not to the level he wants or feels he needs. In my opinion he needs to be cemented into the top 6 by March/April to stand a chance of being here next year, and then go on to get promotion however it comes about.

Nope. As long as we are in the play off hunt then they won't give him the bullet. It would take a December to February like last year for him to be out of the door.

You're probably right but the pressure and panic will be at a very high level. The position of the executive branch can change quickly if things turn for the worse.

What did Steve Bruce say about not having much to spend? Is there a link?
