Why is it?

We went down because we spent too much on too little quality. If we go up we will need 4 or 5 quality players to make a big difference. I don't think anybody seriously thinks we will buy a whole new XI or that Wyness meant that literally.

You should hear the way the bugger talks with vigour about it. They seem convinced that you just buy 3 teams (although FFP is screwing this already on the first).

We will buy a team for this, and one for that, and one for the other. I just want us to grow organically rather than flinging shit at the wall and seeing what sticks to, hopefully, get you where you want to be and start from scratch there.

Yeah Paul. Keep the insults on this thread to liven it up a bit. I want to see the same disagreement going around and around with insults for a few more pages.

If we were in the bottom 6, I could understand the word 'out' in this thread title. But, Bruce has established Villa as a serious promotion contender in the top 6. 'Out' is inappropriate.

He's still one defeat away from serious questions being asked about his capability to get us up nevermind the thought of him managing us in the PL. Lose to Millwall on Saturday and there will be few places for him to hide.

Managers can easily be changed. A change of manager can be necessary. However a point can be reached where managerial change itself is the problem. We had reached that point.  I advocated giving Bruce three years. I stand by that.

Anyone can see that our change of fortunes is not due to amazing team selection or tactics, although I do rate Brucey in the Champ.  Our improvement has been largely due to continuity and the slight chance that Bruce will be the first manager since MON to last as long as a player's three year contract.

I wish I had one of those crystal balls that some posters on this site appear to posess.

You could always just try stating your opinion.

I had a lot of work to get through before signing off a job 200 miles from home, so forgive me.

However, to elaborate, I find myself questioning the finality with which detractors of our current manager see the future mapping out. All the 'Bruce will do x if we get promoted, we should sack him because we will struggle etc'.

Nobody knows. For all we know he could have learned valuable experience from his previous roles that will help him avoid making mistakes he may have made in the past. Or he could be a useless bumberclaart.

But who can know for sure? It's only 2 years since Claudio Ranieri went from ridiculous appointment to manager of the year inside 9 months.

I'm not championing Bruce, just saying that this sort of thing just grates on me a bit.

Here's one to match your suit, LeeB

Speaking of which, have you finished with it yet?

I know, fancy starting a thread back in February when we were shite and going nowhere.  Our record for recent games at that point was DLLLDLLLL.  For a bit of historical context, the thread was started after we'd just been walloped 3-1 at home by the mighty Barnsley, following on from defeats by those other giants Ipswich, Forest and Brentford.  I think Legion added the '?' in April, possibly.  I'd like to know who is going to volunteer to go back and retrospectively amend every other thread title that they no longer deem appropriate.

I’m fairly sure I’ve changed my vote three times. It’s a legitimate thread. And I may be senile.

Agreed. While I am happy we are in the top 6 it’s not been overly convincing, and at times very unconvincing. Both Wolves and Cardiff appear to be playing much more consistently than us with results that back up that assertion. We are in the mix with the next 5 or 6 clubs in my opinion which given Bruce’s experience and resources isn’t enough. Still a long way to go and I accept injuries have affected us, but we will need to improve if we are to secure one of those top 2 spots.

In fairness he's wasted about 10 million buying Hogan but beyond that not really had big resources due to FFP. I think he he had the money the summer before we would probably be back up last season. We would not be enjoying the football an though. I don't think his side have ever been easy on the eye

OK, if we're being "fair".

What's Bruce's win ratio for games managed in the PL?

We don't know for certain what Bruce will be like, if he were to manage us in the PL, but we to have historical (hysterical?) evidence to aid us in giving our opinions.

My opinion is that he will not be good enough, but Xia will give him a chance should we get promoted.

Feel free to disagree.

Ok. Being fair then, what is his win ratio against outside top six teams. Because if we are being fair it's hardly as though he has had massive spending power relatively. Our success will be driven by our results against the bottom half if we get up as we don't have a squad like 'The Mighty Reds YNWA', arse, shitty, Chelski, Manure or Spuds...

We’re in the Chumps with a bloody good chance of getting up. Let’s take it from there...
