So Stuart445 you are happy as long as we are in promotion contention? As long as we have a chance of the play offs Steve Bruce is doing his job and beyond reproach?

To answer his question, we are also as it stands in with a chance of automatic promotion.

Diablo as Clampy said i used the word Promotion not play offs, but doesn't matter if we go up via automatic or play offs they both have the same result
Ah cool. I would have thought you would have said automatic promotion (which was why I then said about play off positions) but it's no biggie as it's clearer now. I was trying to figure out why you were getting so embarrassed and upset by other fans that had a different view point to your own and I thought maybe it's just down to individual expectation (which was why I wanted to establish what your view and expectation of Steve Bruce/Aston Villa is). If you had to give him a mark out of 10 for the past year what would you give him? I ask because I think this would probably highlight the different view points. I can see both sides of the Steve Bruce debate although my personal view differs from your own.

What's embarrassing is a "supporter" not wanting a manager because of the the way he is successful,  not because he's failed everywhere he's been or some places he's been but because of the way he is successful.

Paul so if we gain promotion I fully expect you not to celebrate it because let's face it, it will be a way you are totally against so surely it'd be totally hypocritical for you to celebrate it.

The fact is Bruce has got us competitive again which we haven't been since 2011.  We've had manager after manager and none of them has been able to stop our free fall but Bruce has managed it so I'm unsure what kind of supporter wouldn't be happy with that.

It could have been his ballsack for all I cared when it went in. It was the only part of the game I enjoyed.  The rest was purgatory.

He said this is the foot, and this is the shin. Talking of Withie - he got booed when he came on the pitch at the Blues last night apparently. He was promoting his book. I'm glad they hate him.

Are you aiming that at me even though I haven't posted on here for a few days?

I've explained my issue with Bruce (and more importantly the decision to go for him) many times on this thread but you and 3-4 others have repeatedly ignored it because it doesn't fit with the view of me as a "hater" but let me be clear I don't hate Bruce, I think he's limited but could be effective but he's a binary choice. If we go up he's a success, if we don't he's a failure and we've wasted 2 seasons where we could've been starting the 'villa engine' on a short term shit or bust strategy.

You can disagree with that if you like but once you accept that as my definition of him as a success it's pretty easy to see why I'm not gushing with praise for a 13th place finish last year and the likely play off finish this time.  Promotion via the playoffs would be great and I'd celebrate as much as anyone, but that doesn't mean that 5th place after 20 games is performing well, it's just about the minimum expectation.

I get tired of this repeated shit of "Bruce has made a competitive, unlike our last few managers".

We're in the fucking 2nd division, in case some of you hadn't noticed. A club our size should be "competitive" even if we had a monkey in charge.

Some of our previous managers were shite, but they were shite in the top division. Bruce has yet too prove how competitive he is with us in the top division. Let's prey he gets us up. Then you'll see 'like for like'. Except you might not "like", if he does.

Oh my god!! 13th wasn't great but you need to stop looking at in such a simplistic way, Bruce came in and had to turn around a club that had spent the previous 5 or so years of abject failure. Losing was ingrained into the fabric of the club.

You need to realise the enormity of the job he has had to do.

You do realise that is why we are in this division?

It's interesting isn't it. Two defeats at the start of this season was a supposed disaster of a start but we're in the play offs as we speak. 1 win in the first 11 and in the bottom three under RDM last season and Bruce was expected to get us up.

Bruce has put together a team that is competitive in the second division and dare I say probably will turn out to be the best in this division however there is a higher standard awaiting and it remains to be seen whether he can make us competitive  in the First division.
