Just on Dean Smith

The more I hear about Brentford's recruitment strategy the more I wonder if that is the key reason for them punching above their weight. So hard to tell how good Smith really is

He's never done anything except win matches against us.

That's a good reason not to want him as manager.

Was it a wardrobe? I thought it was a 6 step aluminium step ladder.

So did I.

Here's one of Glenn's poems that mentions slenders.  To have made up a phrase that gets regular use on H&V, and literally nowhere else in society is worthy of mention I reckon.

This weekend's game is massive. To commemorate the moment, I have
penned the following poem. Enjoy it, lads.

The Road to Blackburn

We got up early and made some toast.
We had a wash and put on our pants.
We had a shave and a shit.
We had a pint and we were ready.

Off we went on the road to Blackburn at home.
Going along the Chester Road to Erdington.
Me, Mac, SoccerHQ and Karl Bridges.
We were listened to Spandau Ballet and smoking JPS.

Then we parked the car and met up with some people.
Dave Woodhall was there, saying: "I remember the 1970s."
And we all agreed. And then we talked about our favourite smells.
Grease, boiling kettles, wood, soft toys and old men.

Up pulled Jonny Collett, pulling skids in his flash new motor.
"Alright Jon," said SoccerHQ. "Got a new motor?"
Then we made our to Villa Park, singing our famous anthem.
Pah, pah, pah! Pah, pah, pah! Dah, dah! Pah, pah, pah! Pah, pah, pah!

Then the match. Bent pounced from a yard, like a young Ian Olney.
Young, Gabby, Dunne. Four-nil. Then three more in the second from Bent.
We all cried and sang, like the old days of The Holte.
And we left the ground with a smile and a wink.

Then off to the Barton's for a pint or three.
We chanted and held arms. Some held hands.
Some men cupped each other slenders. It was that kind of day.
Women sang, too. And Andy Gray. But not Richard Keyes.

"A great day," said Mac as he downed his whiskey and bitter.
"Ladyboys," muttered Eastie, as we all laughed at some cheese.
"I need a piss," said Risso, phoning in from his Isle of Man castle.
"A great day," seconded Glenn Peen, as he cut off his chap.

Brilliant. I’m amazed that anybody who frequents this parish fails to find it hilarious.

Each to their own.

Read a book a few years ago about football scouts. What stood out was Brentford were way ahead of most clubs. They put us to shame.

"We’re six players short than we were at the end of last season so we’ll endeavor to be active," Bruce has come out and said this.

So okay he's not factoring in the young players or those like RDL who came back to club and  are active pre season. Signed Moreira and steer is back .

Technically if we include bringing through some youth then maybe it's 3 signings needed as we should be keeping what we have. By   letting moves out of first team now will hinder

The issue would be the quality and readiness of the youth and the gumptions of Bruce to play them a chance .

yes but one of those was Axel who was shit and never played and  Onomah  was at best, was a curates egg. Terry also started to get very leggy late on so you need to put things in perspective. Snoddy was excellent though. Johnstone was ok going on good at times (kicking apart) and the  other one was so good I can't remember who he was. We also had long term injuries to Kodjia and Green plus Hogan (at times) to contend with.

Grabban, who was starting a lot of the games second half of the season and got a few goals.

Grabban, Terry and Snodgrass need replacing. Anyone else can be replaced by the youth. A bit of pace in the replacements would do us a world of good. We might not be as smart and experienced but could be more swashbuckling. No chance with Spud though.

Terry has been replaced by Elphick and Snodders by Green.  We are short of two forwards imo.
