Good to see you give due respect to a grand old club and great name of English football.  Interesting point about whether we have progressed.  Under Di Matteo we had a few halves where we played some great stuff and could have had a hatful, but usually  preceded it or followed it with a half where we played like a bunch of recently introduced novices.  To be honest I think there is a case for saying the recent run under Bruce is not all that dissimilar to the run that got RDM the boot, with the exception that we were creating more chances under RDM,  whilst Bruce has managed to sneak more home wins.  At least Bruce seems to have identified the problems even if some of his selections are strange to say the least (especially his persistence with the most pointless and pointy footballer ever).  RDM's lack of midfield options were of his own making.  Now Bruce  has the chance to buy a midfield worthy of the name I would hope to see a marked improvement.

Fully agree. It's good to see them well managed and on the way back up again

Good read as always Dave.

I just had an interesting thought about something Tony Morley once said about Ron Saunders.

Tony was talking about the time his house had burnt down and he asked Ron if he could be excused training to sort out the obviously impending issues he would've had.  Apparently,  Ron refused and told him to get on with training as there was an important game coming up!

I think it's worth noting that the players 35 or so years ago earned a fraction of what todays players earn (and we were always a top 6 or 7 division one side back then).

The mind boggles.
