Evening.
Of course I watched it...enduring the same pain as all of us..... but have taken so long to read all the adverse comments and re-watch the post-match interview with SB that I means I just caught up with TonyD's comments.
I am with him, in as much as we have always had " iffy " full backs or other defenders. But at least Hutton appears passionate about wanting to make things happen. And the big difference is really that we do not have a single Midfielder of the quality we long-standing (me 56 yrs) Villa fans are used. Names that have you slobbering with desire to have only one of their esteemed legs playing now......including Sid, Brian, Platty, Merse, etc, etc that could take a bad pass and turn it into a bit of magic. ( Magic Merse geddit ? ) WE HAVE NO  MIDFIELDERS for the out-ball, for the fetching and carrying, for the quick one-two out of defence, for the incisive defence-splitting, goal-making creative pass.......or even to get a poor player like Hutton off the hook.
This is a transitional phase, the likes of which we haven't seen in a long time (notably relegation to Div 3 ! OMG )
Steve Bruce recognises this, let's hope he is not over-awed by it and can get the bricks in place to build a new side that works together like a team and isn't a hotch-potch of mis-matched players who still expect another to read their mind when they don't even know what they should be doing, themselves. And then look disdainfully at the poor gut who didn't get it.
You are right about the training though.
Both fitness training, skills training AND tactical training appear to be woefully missing.....or the players don't understand what their role is....and that's inexcusable for £25k per week !

How come Andre green got more crosses in in twenty minutes than adomah grealish bacuna put together

He showed what a winger does he must start next week

Just two crosses, let's not get ahead of ourselves re Green

Zero movement in the box anyway and where is our number 8 type midfielder ala Platt or Lampard driving into the box with a late run. Our team looks desperately coached.

From the 50m spent only Kodjia and Chester seem any value thus far, Elphick is finished as today confirmed, Jedinak not far off gone and McCormack is diabolical.

Looking forward to the game all week and they serve this shit up. I was already upset that GT passed and the tributes that flowed.

Rely Junior has passed to me that onside:

-These are not Bruce's signings
-The first XI are new to each other unlike Brighton, Leeds and Newcastles who have been together longer
-Unfortunate that DeLaet is out for the season and Hutton wouldn't have a got a look in
-Unfortunate that we almost got shot of Westwood but Dyche came to his senses
-The 11 game head start to our rivals
-More incentive from other teams to beat us for who we are

Back to this 'game' and in no particular order of shitness out of ten:

Bruce - Right royally fucked up with his selection, tactics and motivation 9/10
Johnson - only positive and good catches 1/10
Elphck - Cherries can't believe their luck 8/10
Chester - Not a lot wrong and stares into the sky at the ineptitude around 2/10

Amavi - The run and cross which McCordick should have buried was a moment of quality. That moment only. Perhaps a run in left side midfield ala Staunton and Barry? 7/10

Dracula - Repeatedly a dangerous ball in a dangerous position and you think why cant he cross? He's supposed to be a professional footballer for fucks sake 9/10

Jedinak - Is that heavy beard slowing him down? Looked dead on 70mins and is of no use from then.

Tshibola - We've been crying out for Westwood to be dropped, we get our wish and he's functional at best but offers little creativity or driving forward. Going to take time to bed in...26 games played.
5/10

Bacuna - Doesn't look fit or good enough 9/10

Adomah - Looks fucked off he ain't been picked for AN Cup so is stropping his way thru games 7/10

Flabby - 10/10 congratulations! Man of the match for the shitness. Bruce has to play him when fit as it's a condition of his contract, why would it be otherwise ?

McCormack - We've had our pants pulled down over his price, looks overweight and uninterested 9/10.

Jack - Played crap 7/10

Andre & Davis - Yay products of our academy coming through 1/10

My team is officially a shit mid table 2nd division side while Spuds and Toffees are light years away.

Promotion via 6th place scraped and penalty shoot out in May 2018 is what I'm expecting.

Don't hold your breath, Remy -or Remy Jnr - because THIS team isn't going to the playoffs, let alone the Final.

I can't link to his comments but what Bruce has said wouldn't be out of place in this thread.
At least he see's it. Let's hope he does something about it.

He talks the talk but then does fuck all about it

compare the wolves game when he came in and compare todays wolves game and what the improvement has been

answers on the back of a stamp written in marker pen

More points per game than his predecessor? Let's face it the squad is midtable at best and that's what Bruce has achieved regardless of performances

RDM was sacked for 10 points in 10 games and a cup defeat.  If you take our last 10 league games Bruce has got 14 points and a cup defeat.  The form when he arrived is looking more and more like a honeymoon period and yet some people still won't criticise him for putting out a side with no shape, no technique and no confidence.

Again today my biggest problem was that we were just far too deep all the time.  Under RDM there was a real belief that we were going to give someone a real battering and a hope that it'd be the turning point where the squad realised they could do better.  Under Bruce I have no belief that we'll score more than 1 and I only really expect us to make chances from free kicks and corners.  As soon as we conceded I was resigned to a point at best because he just doesn't know how to get a team attacking with any fluency.

Whoppee do

I stand by the point that we have made zero improvement under bruce

blackburn, wigan and burton at home where we huffed and puffed and were lucky to get 9 points against teams in the bottom 5

Lets see how we fare against teams in the top ten before we gush over his points per game ratio

That was embarrassing, pathetic, desperately poor. Worst thing for me is it was predictable, I said we'd lose 1-0 and knew nobody would score for us. We think we can get promoted with Fat Gabby waddling about up front? Laughable.

Our away record and style of play is killing our away support. Numbers have been fantastic but so many games this season our actual support has been crap; Blues, Cardiff, today to name a few. I can understand that it's hard to sing when you're watching that garbage every week but we used to pride ourselves that we sang no matter what, now we're like an Everton or Liverpool who only sing when we're winning. Wolves fans are laughing more at how crap our fans were more than how crap our team was.

Why not take his last 15 games in which he's taken 25 points? Honeymoon period don't count? Cup loss to spurs away compared to Luton away.

Performances decidedly average I agree  but we've at least shown some fighting spirit and salvaged points from losing positions. It's a poor squad. I'm confident SB will get us back with a chance to build a team

So you'd rather we stuck with RDM or you'd have preferred someone other than Bruce? Who would that be?

Let's see how we fare when he's had chance to brung a few players in before we start calling for our 6th manager in 18 months.
