Best Boxing Day game of recent years was the 2-2 draw with Arsenal at home. We were 0-2 down despite battering them all first half. Zat Knight equalised in injury time and the ground exploded. That put us 4th in the table.
Best Boxing Day ever was the 3-0 v manure (followed up by the ny day 2-1 v arse). Never been so packed in tight on the Holte. Made even sweeter by the fact the old man came, he supports Man U. He had his sheepskin coat on and was standing next to a fella wearing a Barbour jacket! Only one winner there! Back end of the Queues from L and K met outside the front door of the Holte pub. We were queuing for K then saw a lad from school there and ended up going in L and only just made it in. Up there with my best ever Villa Park times. The belief of the crowd in both games was absolutely amazing. Fucked the Cockney Fuckers twice in a week!

I remember that the Holte was packed that day. I didn't see any of the first half because we could not get anywhere near a place on the terraces so we stood on the gangway with no view of the pitch. At half time people went off for a pie or a piss and we managed to get a space with a view. Thankfully it was 0-0 at half time so we saw all three goals in an inspired second half performance.

same. Spent the first half standing in the concourse behind the front third of terracing. Couldn't see anything until we managed to get a spot at half time. The old man was a teacher in Chelmsley back then and got spotted half a dozen times! 'Sir, we never knew you was a Villa fan!'
'I'm not- get lost!'

I think I might have posted this before, but I went to both them games and remember queuing up outside the Holte End for the Arsenal game. Before me in the queue was a really odd fella , who looked like a 70's Dr Who , resplendent in a full length Cream Mackintosh coat, holding a plastic Kwik Save carrier bag full of 2 pence pieces. He spent the whole time in the queue moaning about all the Gloryhunters (Villa fans) who only turned up for the big games. When he finally got to the turnstile , the operator told him he wasn't counting all that change now , he would have to come back when the queue had died down and presumably the sold out signs were put up.The guy who had probably queued up for the best part of an hour, walked off effing and jeffing down the Witton lane.
I always wondered if he managed to get in.

The 2-1 v Arsenal included my favourite David Platt goal when he dummied to shoot on his left from the edge of the box, sent half the Arsenal defence towards the Witton Lane and smashed it into the bottom corner with his right. At the Holte End too. He was magnificent that season.

Yep, went to both of them and the holte end was as busy as I can remember as well. That was when football (and going to the football) was the highlight of the week, great times.

We've surely got to beat Burton, im going for 1-0

2-0 ba humbug fest watched by 25k

Should rotate it around again, Bacuna for Hutton, Grealish on left, maybe even give McCormack another go with Kodjia

Edit - just reading that it's nearly a sell out  ;D fair play

I reckon he might rotate a bit between this and the Leeds game - two games in four days and we didn't do well when we had two games in three days recently

Grealish has to come in for me. Back four picks itself

Burton:

Jedinak Gardner - adomah grealish ayew - kodjia

Leeds:

Bacuna Jedinak Westwood - adomah kodjia grealish

If we can get a couple of goals up v burton I'd take Jedinak off

Although I think villa have been two up and comfortable once in the whole of 2016 so I wouldn't bet on it

same match, stood in the Holte with my old man who also supports Man Utd he wasn't wearing sheepskin though on memory

The was the game I think that the Holte started singing "Thank you very much for Paul McGrath" to Ferguson to the Cadbury's Roses advert tune.
