Brighton (A) 1983

Afternoon All,

With the team at Brighton tonight - playing them in the league for the first time in 33 years - I just wondered if anyone remembers going to the awful 0-0 draw at the old Goldstone in March 1983 ?

My memories of it don't really extend past sitting on the seafront in the car after listening to the end of the League Cup Final.

I remember driving down with a mate for a night game, late 70's.
Got all the way there only to find game had been called off

Yes, I remember it all too well.

I had moved to Brighton the year before and I got a ticket in the South Stand on the day. The Villa fans were at the other end and their numbers were very small, to say the least.

The main memory was Gary Shaw getting a crunching tackle to the ankle and shouting out "Fucking Hell!" to which a Brighton fan nearby shouted out "You're not wrong, mate".

Ghastly.
