Are you talking about their respective records, playing style or media image?  Who is your favourite manager at the moment?

Probably unfair to lob Sherwood in there as he's not been around as long

obviously Mclaren and Mcliesh have actually won stuff as well as promotion,
and the others have had there day in the sun with promotions as well but collectively they are all typical British old school old fashioned archaic tactical nieve extremely boring football managers

Playing style then?  Do you think Lambert, Warnock or Holloway would be getting the kind of results we have been getting of late?  After such a shite run before it?

I don't know mate who can say,
 Warnock did pretty good with Huddersfield last season when they were dead and buried, but I still hate the way he sets up his teams

I just don't like those grinding boring managers, and that's it,
 I accept they all might have their plus points and a lot of people said they don't mind putting up with Bruce type football if it gets us up, which it wont this year obviously but maybe next,
but its not for me, i wouldn't want any of the managers mentioned above at Villa or back at Villa

whether you like it or not Bruce is not any different to that little group,
 he's not something special he belongs right in the middle of the old boy network British managers boring football club, a lot of people know that and are prepared to accept it because they believe it will bring success and that's fine, its not my view but i can see where they are coming from, but don't think he's much different, he's not

i haven't got a favourite at the moment as we don't need a manager just now,
 when we do i'll let you know, but some of my choices in times past haven't come up trumps i'll be honest enough to tell you that
i sort of know what i don't like more than i know what might work, its a cop out i know


 

Sorry for the quote-a-thon.  I was just trying to get a sense of the kind of manager you'd like to see here, probably came across like I was hounding you a bit. 

I think Bruce's record is better than most of the other names you've mentioned and was also a top player at a club with arguably the best manager in the history of British football.  In isolation (or even together) that doesn't always make a good manager.  I always think success comes when a manager and club kind of just 'fit' in a way that seems right for that time.  Bruce fits that bill for us at the moment I reckon and January wobble aside, the results back this up.

Yup, in the final. I just chose the most impressive of their results to make my point.

The comeback two rounds earlier against Napoli is also excellent evidence of mr underhill's managerial aptitude.

And they won the FA Cup that year as well I think although I'm not sure what round they were in when he took over. It's fair to say he did a decent job in his short time there.

Cardiff have the weakest squad out of the three and the least money, but I think Warnock thrives in that situation and despite bringing in cast-offs like Kieran Richardson and Hoilett, they will surge up the league to safety in to a comfortable mid-table position.

He's reliable is Old Warnock.

My Villa prediction didn't go quite so well (saying we might sneak 5th or 6th).

Your choice of manager (Club/Owner) should reflect how you want your Club to go forward in the future.

If you accept a 'two steps forward and one back' approach you can select a type of manager that will get you that.  If you want a 'steady progression best use of resources' approach, you select a different type of manager.  What you cannot do is select one type and expect the opposite as managers rarely change their spots.

Yup you nailed it with your Warnock Cardiff prediction and to be fair overall you did say that you thought neither us or Derby would go up (even if you did say we might sneak it into the play offs). I wouldn't be too hard on yourself I think maybe the heart over ruled the head with the sneaking prediction ;-)

I saw a documentary about his time at Sheffield United. He took the team to Scarborough in the depths of winter for a fish and chips treat  and he had made notes on post-its of players' transgressions, many of which were not following his directions on the pitch. The penalty was that that had to dive into the freezing North Sea. Jagielka or one of his other players that went onto greater things had to do it.

Steve Bruce can't even get some of the players to the training  ground on time, and if he told them they would have to dip their toes into the swimming pool at BH they would tell him to fuck off and phone their agents.

Sometimes I wonder how it would be if Jack Grealish became famous for kicking Colin Wanker in the balls and rabbit punching his head on the way down when confronted on his way back to the dressing room, rather than falling asleep in the middle of the road in Tenerife off his tits or banging on with a gong and getting it on.

I believe Warnock would have put us right. Not at all as a long term choice, but simply to resuscitate the flatlining patient and put it back on its feet, a transitional manager to allow a stable, solid basis to then bring in some hip German genius to lead us back to glories past.
