Never liked him, but as others have said he is a good coach just not a manager.

I see his assistant was Chris Powell, did an ok job at Charlton and Huddersfield so probably thought he would be offered the chance to manage them the rest of the season.

Good set up at Derby, decent size stadium and decent enough squad of players, sure someone will come in and turn them into playoff contenders next season.

Another club in turmoil. Powell wasn't going to be manager as associated with McClaren. If its true that the players have got him out because wholesale changes were going to happen in the summer then more fool the chairman for listening to the only constants over the last two years.

McLaren = McLeish. It's that simple.

Rowett for Derby, they wanted him previously. Another below par appointment if so.

Mclaren, Mcliesh, Bruce, Warnock, Holloway, Lambert, Sherwood

all exactly the same not a fag paper between the lot of them

Are you talking about their respective records, playing style or media image?  Who is your favourite manager at the moment?

Probably unfair to lob Sherwood in there as he's not been around as long

obviously Mclaren and Mcliesh have actually won stuff as well as promotion,
and the others have had there day in the sun with promotions as well but collectively they are all typical British old school old fashioned archaic tactical nieve extremely boring football managers

The results and table this season would arguably support your argument.

Only 30 of the 72 Football League clubs have the same manager they had at the beginning of March last year and over a third of the clubs have changed manager since we appointed Steve Bruce.
There's a hell of a lot of people in football who really don't know what they're doing.

Playing style then?  Do you think Lambert, Warnock or Holloway would be getting the kind of results we have been getting of late?  After such a shite run before it?

Who is your current favourite manager?

I don't know mate who can say,
Warnock did pretty good with Huddersfield last season when they were dead and buried, but I still hate the way he sets up his teams

I just don't like those grinding boring managers, and that's it,
I accept they all might have their plus points and a lot of people said they don't mind putting up with Bruce type football if it gets us up, which it wont this year obviously but maybe next,
but its not for me, i wouldn't want any of the managers mentioned above at Villa or back at Villa

whether you like it or not Bruce is not any different to that little group,
he's not something special he belongs right in the middle of the old boy network British managers boring football club, a lot of people know that and are prepared to accept it because they believe it will bring success and that's fine, its not my view but i can see where they are coming from, but don't think he's much different, he's not

i haven't got a favourite at the moment as we don't need a manager just now,
when we do i'll let you know, but some of my choices in times past haven't come up trumps i'll be honest enough to tell you that
i sort of know what i don't like more than i know what might work, its a cop out i know

Particularly disappointing John given you've spent many posts calling for Bruce to be given the chop.

But Bruce is managing at a club way above the level of any of the others, if they are managing at all. Why is that? Unless you class us on a level with Derby, Cardiff, Wolves, etc.

yeah cus that's the way it works
De Mateo was Chelsea's manager and won the Champions League but we still fucked him off after a dozen games

I could have managed the Chavs to CL success that year as could a baby chimp. We fucked RDM off after a dozen games because he was a useless charlatan.
