« on: October 05, 2016, 11:44:38 AM »
Just received Email from the club thanking me/us for our superb support away from home this season.
It does make impressive reading:

Wednesday   93miles    4465
Derby            41 miles   3061
Bristol City   96 miles    2551
IpswichTown151 miles 1882
Barnsley       101 miles 3670
Preston        109 miles 5650

Hopefully lot more to come...imagine if we win a few!!!

We've taken more away from home than anybody else in the country so far.

Superb support (as it always used to be in 1970s & 1980s when I would have been doing at least half the away games).

Well done to all concerned - we always hear you loud and clear  :)

Somebody on twitter mentioned that our two biggest allocations are yet to come. Anyone know where they are?

Wigan is usually a big allocation.

Blackburn is one as Chico says at 7k. The other I guess is Wigan at 5400, so not wholly accurate.

Have been to both of those, Wigan is a decent day out. All the pubs around the ground in Blackburn have shut, walked to Darwen to find an open one.

Think it's a Geordie talking about Newcastle away games rather than Villa .

Apart from Barnsley they've all been sell-outs and at Bristol, Ipswich and Preston there were a fair few in the home sections too.
Luton in the cup also a sell-out.

My only criticism is that while the numbers have been great the support hasn't. Hillsborough it was, but from then on there's only been Ipswich when I'd say the support for the team was good when they've needed it most - when the game started going against us. I've found it surprising because last season the away support was fantastic however the games were going.
Throughout the summer talk was of getting a manager and players who knew about the Championship and being able to cope with it - I wasn't thinking it would be the fans who wouldn't have the bottle. Very noisy until it's not going our way. Silent after Bristol scored the second, and many walked out, similar Saturday - Derby it all went quite 2nd half when they took control of the game.
I'm as bad as the rest (although I do see the games out) and there is this feeling of "here we go again" that we all seem to get - but are we doing our bit just by turning up and drinking these places dry?
