Simon Grayson
« on: September 26, 2016, 02:07:43 PM »
Saturday sees us come against our former player, Simon Grayson.  What is everyone's recollections of him?  I always saw him as steady and reliable and he became one of my favourite players.

And that first minute goal against the Albion!!!

Similar to Colin Calderwood...pretty much a utility player who I really assocaite with other clubs and forget they even played for us! He was more of a key player for Leicester.

That said great volley against WBA and he also scored last minute in the cup v Pompey the previous round.

My eldest was born in the September of 98. That game was one of the few I took my wife to. It pissed down for a long part of that game and I drove home in nothing but a pair of pants. I always joke that Connor was conceived cuz my wife found me irresistible after the long journey home but really I was celebrating Grayson's late equalizer. I always wanted to call him simon after that

Again he's one of those who I think only played the odd game for us yet Wiki says he appeared 49 times for us. A regular under SBL but fell out of favour the next year under Gregory.

Only 46 aswell...thought we signed him in his 30s but he turned up here when 27.

I am certainly confusing him with Calderwood.

He's done well as a manager but he is from the McLeish school of entertainment to describe his teams playing styles.

Was it his brother who was a pro cricketer, and later a coach, with Essex?

Yes, Paul Grayson.

I don't recall him playing in ODI's, but as he played twice it's hardly surprising.

I dont think he ever let us down or left anything on the pitch which will do for me. It irks a little that we were probably 3-4 Grayson type of players away from riding out the storm of the last 4years.

My abiding memory of him is his unveiling, having to pose for press pictures under an AST Computer brolly because it was pissing down.

Grayson never let us down at full back or in midfield, a solid player.

Doug Ellis had been promising 2 world class signings that summer, we signed Stan Collymore and I was eagerly awaiting the 2nd....turned out it was Simon Grayson.

I had a whole year of people at work taking the piss out of me over that.
