We should be an outside bet for automatic promotion. We're actually an outside bet for relegation.

No we're not.

As for the game, frustrating yet again. There seemed to be a 'not so gung ho' plan to it tonight and whilst that's fine, we needed the second goal.

I don't think it's fine at all when you're at home to fucking Brentford and have 4 strikers in the starting 11. How can you do that and then not be gung ho?

Too many passengers second half.  Westwood was so anonymous it was untrue, Gestede had one of his bambi struggling to take a shit on ice nights, and fuck knows why Ayew and Kodjia were out wide much of the game. Di Matteo has 3 games to show he can sort this.  If he doesn't he will be gone.  Neil Warnock would have on more points than this.  Really poor.

With 5 minutes to go, I went off for dinner thinking we can't fuck up again.

Serious questions need to be asked. Everybody knows you have to battle for every point in this league yet we seem to have decided to go against the grain and not buy a midfield

Without checking, I'd bet Risso's bet winnings that we spent more on central midfielders this summer than Brentford have spent on that position in their entire history.

Utter fucking garbage. Sack the manager now. He's not got a fucking clue. 4-2-4 with that c*** Westwood playing as a two Christ.

Tonight was absolutely woeful. As bad if not worse than anything we've seen last season.

Brentford didn't even pose a threat all game. Their final ball was abysmal, for as tidy and compact as they looked in the other two thirds. Where the fuck had Cissokho gone for the goal?

We are atrocious and getting worse. There is no chance this naive balloon has the nous to get us promoted.  We will get nowhere near the top half.

What the fuck was that donkey Gestede left on the pitch for, at the expense of a genuine centre forward shunted put wide? Why the fuck is he mimicking Lambert's Bradford tactic?

We look a disjointed and unstructured mess.

How the fuck does Westwood get picked? Fresh air would be better. I'm sick of listing all he can't do, but suffice to say he first contributed something in the 77th minute when he actually won the ball.

Welcome to the bottom half of the league. A relegation battle in the 2nd Division aways. "When we gel..." fuck off. We are utter dogshite.

Also make no mistake - Brentford worked hard and were sort of better than they should have been, but they really weren't great. The way we stood off them in awe and fear, at home, was fucking bewildering.

I think we all seem to be forgetting we're unbeaten at home this season...

So it sounds like another Villa midfield two got overrun in the 2nd half again? There's a shock...

Why does every team have some sort of togetherness and positivity and gumption and rev, apart from us? It's so tepid and lethargic and just so boring, the way we play. Like nobody has any energy. I just don't get it.

I'm pretty underwhelmed by our 'leaders' at the moment.

Is anyone else starting to wonder about how decent a player Elphick is, for all that "he's a leader" stuff?

He was another big fish in a very small pond.  He's come here and it's like night and day compared to the Cherries.  It's probably weighing on him.  Timing I know but I would've made Jedinak captain.  Get Baker in for some good old fashioned defending.

Is this not a fitness problem? Players who worked like their lives depended on it in the first half couldn't raise a canter in the  last half an hour. Huddersfield and, to a lesser extent, Forest, was the same.

What I meant was, rather than go for all out attack, there seemed to be a bit more of a attempt to keep it a bit more tighter rather than try and score three and four. But yeah, we should be beating the likes of Brentford.

I thought Baker should have been on when De Laet went off, simply to block it up.

We can't always be the most unfit side in the league.

Annoyed with lot of things today. Traffic coming home earlier today. Traffic going to Villa Park and traffic on the way back but most of all the utter shambolic display.
No energy.
No desire.
No rhythm.
No idea.
Totally outplayed by a mediocre second division team. FFS why do I bother??

RDM obviously takes off his mask to reveal Paul Lambert at half time based on our abysmal second half performances. Tactically I'm not impressed by him and tonight had the hallmark of desperation to get a win.

Bournemouth didn't let Elphick go without a reason. He scares me to death and looks two kicks away from throwing Gollini under a bus.  Have to say that when are playing like a bunch of headless chickens the last thing I would do is throw another on in Gary Gardner, it just compounds the issue.
