Quiz question
« on: September 01, 2016, 03:29:58 PM »
10 points for the first person to answer correctly

Subject 27-9-1975 -  Villa 2, Blues 1.

yes we all remember going to work the following Monday revelling in Hamilton and Little giving us a 2-1 win this most eagerly anticipated clash (it was the first top division game between us in 10 years).

I remembered the other morning, how a lass I used to work with (a nose) said we were lucky because their centre forward went off injured, in the first half, while they were winning 1-0 (only one sub of course in those days).

Anyone remember who that player was that went off injured ?

Not sure about you guys, but I never really rated him that much when he was at Wolves and Blues - who would've thought less than 7 years later he'd be playing a "one-two" off the post to win us club football's biggest honour !

I think Withe was, apart from his spell with us, a journeyman centre forward but Saunders, to his great credit, saw him as the perfect front man for his team.  I can't think of a better fit for a player being brought into a team.

Withe and Shaw, a perfect combination

Me neither, I remember my Blues mates taking the piss when we signed him. Funny how thing turn out.

Before us he did well at Forest, as far as I'm aware, and that was it.
He, like us, needed the fit and we were it.
I can't imagine any centre forward struggling when Gary Shaw was your partner up front, though.

Can't remember the exact totals each got, but a few years between them they were bagging around 40 goals per season.

Withe's honours record is quite impressive when you read it: a European Cup, a Super Cup, 2 League championships, a League Cup and (a paltry) 11 England caps.

Just looked it up. 1980/81, 38 league, 3 League Cup, 1981/82, 19 league, 10 cups, 1982/83, 33 and 11. That's 114 goals in three seasons.

Very impressive record - I didn't think he was much of a footballer but he did have a brain on the pitch.

2nd best moment the Elbow in the Face of the Dirty Twunt Barca player when they were nasty fuckers allowing our boy to score.
