Back in training only 6 weeks after surgery on his fractured ankle! according to the B'ham Mail. Good news!

Very good news.

I presume this is true but if so it's a real surprise.

There's nothing in the Villa website. Perhaps they're all on holiday!

Excellent. With McCormack apparently working very hard and literally being half the man he was, we should have enough fire power with a fit Kodjia, Hogan and RMC to get out this league.

I don't know if it's just my view but I always felt that the club seemed to overplay that injury.
When he got hurt and went down it seemed pretty innocuous, and if I remember correctly, he pretty much limped off, albeit with some help.
I'm not saying he didn't break or fracture something, but surely it would have 'looked' much worse had it been a 'proper break'.
And then to say he would be out for the first couple of months of the season, but then for him to be close to fitness for the start is weird.
You can't get a diagnosis/prognosis so wrong so as to be months out of kilter.

I said at the time and I maintain, they overplayed that injury but I have no reason why they would do so.

Unless of course he really does have feckin super human powers and has healed in record time which is possible for Kodge!

He does go down a bit soft for a fella who is well-able to out-muscle defenders when he's in full flow.

I always remember Okore walked off and thought there was nothing to worry about and he'd be back the next weekend.

I think with modern science now a clean leg break isn't actually that bad for recovery, plenty of players come back from hairline fractures in 3-4 months now.

ACL is still the injury that knackers players the most.

Edit: A lot of clubs also do put the longest timescale on injury recoveries probably just to stop a million questions coming their way if they say two month lay off and he's nowhere to be seen after 8 weeks.

It's possible to break a bone and carry on, not realising it's broken until some time after. So it might not look a big deal but turn out to bad.

As SHQ says if it's a clean break i.e. no ligament damage around the bone, the bone can heal quite quickly.

I imagine the specialists will say it should take x-y weeks to heal from and the club just announce the longer timescale to dampen down expectations. It will help the individual when they're told they're ahead of schedule too - certainly as opposed to being told you're behind schedule.

Some people will heal faster than traditional diagnosis too. When I had my ankle reconstructed, I was supposed to be on crutches for 6 weeks but only 2 and I pretty much did everything in a third of the time. I kept having nurses telling me off and Doctors double-checking that they're looking at the right date for the date of the surgery!

Maybe the injury was reported to be much worse than it actually was to scare off potential suitors.

Fractures take about 6 weeks to heal. If it was undisplaced I can see him starting training after that period of time. It may have been an avulsion fracture which is associated with a ligament injury - again a 6 week time frame to start light training would not be unusual.

The official site tells us today that Kodjia has returned after his 'knee injury'.

He had a broken fibula, didn't he?

Is he back in proper training then?

Don't see him making the start of the season but he should be back for the games in September which isn't too bad particularly as our whole gameplan once we cross the halfway line seems to pretty much revolve around him.
