Can he play with a strike partner? That is my worry.

I thought he played well, excellent goal, turned and ran at defenders causing problems, and generally showed real drive and ambition. Ocassionally he made the wrong choice and occasionally his delivery was disappointing but some of the times he was selfish I think he was right to be, such as when his only option (Hogan) was surrounded by 4 players, might as well shoot.

I do think sometimes he can look a little bit too laid back if that's the right word. He looked a lot better with someone alongside him though.

Maybe it's because I find it hard liking any player that wears a Villa shirt these days, his inability to pass to a team mate in a better position and his habit of pretending he's badly grazed his knee or some such minor injury meaning he has to have 'treatment' gets on my nerves. Bjarnasson or whatever he's called was playing dead yesterday as well.

Nice goal though even though it doesn't count because Grealish passed it to him.

Yeah, the 4 or 5 roll Bjarasson did was quite something I must admit.

What a classy reply to McGrath. Have to disagree with God, I thought Kodjia worked hard against Forest. Yes, he needs to get his head up and see the options around him, but you can't accuse him of not trying.

An excellent respectful reply. How many other players would have told Macca to get shafted?

Kodijia is so frustrating, and I've got sympathy for McGrath's criticisms because he doesn't seem to look up often and tries to do too much and invariable loses possession. Just when I'm losing my patience with him he pops up and scores a cracker. I just wish (like others) that he'd be more of a team player because he'd be even better.

Jonathan Kodjia has replied to Paul McGrath's apology after the Aston Villa legend blasted the striker for his workrate.

Kodjia tweeted: "No need 2 apologise God, u'r a legend of the club & won the right 2 be entitled 2 express your opinion in everything 2 do with @AVFCOfficial.

The Ivory Coast international also admitted that he does have some flaws in his game, adding: "And yes there are still many aspects of my game I have to work on AVFC"

McGrath continued the twitter discussion, replying: "To J.kodjia id say sorry , but do I think you'll make a player ' you are a player, do I believe you could be a great player yes #work"

The Villa hero had earlier suggested Kodjia's efforts compared unfavourably to those of new strike partner Scott Hogan.

Kodjia scored a spectacular goal to take his tally to 10 goals for the season in the 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest, but McGrath felt the Ivory Coast international needed to be more of a team player.

He said: "Sorry Aston Villa, even if he scores four Kodjia is the villain. Work rate is nil/ Hogan is a player.

"Can I just give a quick mention to Hogan's work rate. Other please take notice. Goal is great now let's work for each other.

"Again sorry, 10 goals in the Championship isn't my idea of class. Look this kid (Kodjia) has talent but needs to lean how to play in a team game."

McGrath later apologised to the former Bristol City striker, adding: "Apologies to Aston Villa supporters and our goal scorer Kodjia.

"In my defence I'm saddened at where we find ourselves. Only because I care."

TBF, it was their first game together. They are not going to have a partnership after 80 mins or so.

He is frustrating at times, but a lot of good strikers are. Ask Utd fans if Ibrahimavich isn't a pain in the backside sometimes. (Not remotely comparing them in terms of quality).

However, JK has 10 goals. He's doing his job. If he keeps scoring he's entitled to be erratic in games. He's entitled to hold the ball too long and not pass it when perhaps he should, or shoot on sight. Perhaps a more reasonable comparison is he and Defoe. Not always easy to play with. Perhaps often operating with their own needs first, before the teams, but the question is, would you rather have a Heskey, or would you rather have a Defoe?

He's the only player we have currently who is doing what we're paying them to. His primary function is scoring goals, and he does that. We have no grounds to complain about JK.

Kod does need to improve his all round game, especially if wants to be more than just a good second tier striker. We'd be fecked without him though. Depressingly, Rudy is still our second top scorer this season with 4.
