You can't talk about sparking a debate if you then get touchy about someone disagreeing with you.

Yes OK I recognised they are different players however in terms of pure talent Benteke was ahead whereas Kodjia is always involved.
Oh by the way are you conveniently forgetting Benteke's goals against the like of Manu and Liverpool?
I''m not conveniently forgetting anything, he also scored great goals against Chelsea, home and away.

Generally, he scores against lower table opposition, as he did at Liverpool and as he is currently doing at Palace.

Personally, Benteke is history to me.  I don't want him back and prefer to focus on where we are now.

He also scored three against Arsenal during his time here, and once against Spurs. Add those to the two he scored against United, four vs Liverpool, and two against Chelsea, and that's 12 goals out of the 49 total he managed. So, just under 25% of his goals were scored against the top six (give or take) clubs in the country, which is hardly a damning ratio.

See, it's probably not a great idea to make claims that can actually be assessed by evidence.

I'm thrilled with the way Kodjia's going for us, but I'm not really enjoying this revisionist downplaying of what Benteke did for us in his three seasons.

You don't have to enjoy it.  I'm posting an opinion that is mine, not for the benefit of someone elses enjoyment.

Yes, Benteke was good for us.  He's been a bit hit and miss since and I would personally prefer to leave him in the past (sorry if you didn't "enjoy" that statement)

If he came back and proved me wrong then I would be as happy as the next man but given the choice, I'd prefer to build a new side, not have the annual pipe dream of the Bentekes, Barrys, Milners and Youngs of this world returning to us.  As I stated earlier, I believe that it is rare for things to work so well the second time around.

I agree with that, although at this stage it's ludicrous to compare Kodjia with him.

Benteke is a better player than Kod. At 27 Kod looks one of the best players in Division 2. At 21 Benteke looked one of the best players in the country.

Actually, I am the one doing the disagreeing.

I am not getting "touchy", that is just something that you have added for value.

I think opinions aren't there to be "enjoyed".  I think it is a silly thing to say.  I saw some ridiculous opinions on who should be our next manager, absolutely laughable.  I understood that it was someones opinion though and not something that had been posted for others enjoyment.

Really pleased how he has hit (4 h words in a row!) the ground running and its clearly his time to be a Villa hero if he continues with his contribution to the team. Benteke was brilliant and on his day unplayable at times for us and he performed at a higher level in arguably a poorer side. I think its tough to compare but possible to equally enjoy what they did or are doing in a Villa shirt.

Surely OK if you post a comment on this forum it's for everyone else to share, enjoy, dislike, reply or ignore? :)

Call me old fashioned but I thought opinions were there to be discussed and debated, they provoke debate.  I'm sorry, I just can't get my head around someone "not enjoying" my opinion.  Should I post an opinion that is generally going to be enjoyed by everyone?

I'd agree that opinions are there to be replied to or ignored but not enjoyed.

I can't see the harm is someone enjoys a post. It's a bit of a small thing to get worked up over.

Good for you.

Who said anything about getting worked up?  I am just answering some very strange (and extremely petty) questions.  It's far more of a small thing to keep firing questions about.

Nobody said there was any harm in "enjoying" posts

You did say posts were not to be enjoyed though. Why not? I enjoyed reading something Chris Smith posted earlier and PWS has just made me laugh out loud in Off Topic. I enjoy coming on here and I find some posts enjoyable.

I do kind of understand the Benteke comparisons in a way because Kodjia is the first striker we've had since Benteke left that actually looks like a class act and he's scoring on a regular basis. Oh and I've have Benteke back tomorrow.

Given that Everton were a solid top six / seven side when Benteke was with us and he got four goals against them, it makes his record even better.

Personally I'd say that his record against the better clubs was one of the last things Benteke could be criticised for.

passitsideways wasn't 'enjoying' your comment or not just that the contribution of Benteke had been somewhat revised. I agree with him, and others, that Benteke was, and is, worth a lot more (not just monetarily) than Kodjia.

This guy is a bit special.
Not quite as talented as Benteke but a 90 minutes involved player. Never goes out of the game.

Whilst respecting what Benteke did for us, I prefer watching Kodija play.  He has more pace and trickery, whereas Benteke was about power against opposing players, and placing the ball in the net.

Watching Benteke run onto a pass was brilliant. The ball may not have ended up in the net every time but he was the first striker we had in ages where I thought it might happen.

Kodjia is a cracking little player but the beast was the beast. His attitude wasn't quite right some of the times but ability wise he could terror any defence. Not  sure you can say that about Kodj but nevermind I'm just enjoying having a dangerous striker once more playing in a decent team. We can talk about levels and all that but let's just enjoy winning a few games once again, it's been a long time.

Just in case anyone was wondering, I don't enjoy any of your posts.

They're all equally unenjoyable.

I'd say it's almost entirely back to front.  Benteke was superb against the top sides and relegation sides, he didn't score anything like enough in the games against the midtable sides which is why we were always down the bottom because if he didn't score we didn't and we just couldn't seem to get him into those games.

Kodjia has been great for us so far, but he's not demonstrated he can perform at the level Benteke did.
