Looks like we have a new Head of Performance Analysis and Technical Recruitment. Joins from Southampton and is very well regarded by all accounts.
Lucky for him he couldn't possibly be any worse than his predecessor.

Good Luck

I don't get this angst towards Reilly

Nearly all of the new recruits last year
Ayew
Amavi
Gana
Vertout
Gestede

Most are hopeful they stay

The likes of Richards and Lescott I assume were not scouted as such as they were clearly Sherwoods influence

So what did he actually do to justify the shit?

It's the name of an old mate of mine, a 42 year old man heroically devoted to not growing up.

A lightening rod for frustration. Especially when all you need to take the piss is say FIFA 16 / PS4 / XBOX because the player databases are drawn from the same data sources as the professional databases.

To play devil's advocate, the wrong players were brought in for the manager that we had at the time. Several of the players we bought were and clearly still are good players, as you rightly say.

If the plan was to aim for a multi-national, multi-cultural squad based on promise and development then they needed a manager who has shown that he has the skillset to deal with that.

If we had a manager who has proven himself relatively competent at yelling about wearing his heart on his sleeve, then the head of recruitment should have been buying players that would fit that style of management.

It's like giving somebody who can make a perfectly great jacket potato but can't cook much else the ingredients to make a baked Alaska - and then being surprised when you end up with an oven filled with melted ice cream.

I think Gestede was probably Sherwood's idea as well.  The charge I would aim at Reilly would be that, although the players listed were some of the better players last season (not hard I know), we lost the spine of our team and the players brought in weren't really the type to fill that void.

Well, the ''Paddy recruits'' cost nearly £40m quid and looked shite, that's why he gets stick.

Nearly £20m of that was on Ayew and Amavi, neither of whom looked shite at all.
