First game at Spuds was when they had Ossie and Ricky Villa making their home debuts and we stuffed them, was with some Spurs fans we had meet in Gt Yarmouth on holiday stood in the corner of the shelf.
My last away game apart from Wembley, before moving to the Middle East, Villa's 4-4.

Got to admit I'd never heard of The Shelf until the last few days. I've heard of the Holte, the Kop, the Gallowgate End etc but never the Shelf. Now they're trying to claim it as "iconic". Yeah right.

I stood there for the Ormondroyd-as-Mattheus game in 1990 and to be fair it gave the best view of any terrace I've ever been on.

It's just that I've never heard of it till now, and I've been watching football since the 70s. Bit sick of this media led Tottenham love in.

Seriously what's all the fuss about, they're basically knocking down 4 stands and rebuilding while shifting the pitch about 50 metres.  They're hardly walking away from their spiritual home.

Typical Spurs, making a fuss of themselves when there's really not that much to fuss about.

That's the thing, it will still be in one of the worst parts of North London, one of those grounds the nearer to kick off you get there the better, after wetting the throat somewhere nice in London.

First game at 'The Lane' was a 2-1 defeat in September 1990. Paul Allen got a late winner.

Best experience their was the league cup Qtr final in 94 in the rain. We always seemed to win there through the 90's. Like a cockney Highfield Road (with a similar dodgy away end).

Yeah I've always been uneasy in Tottenham. It's a seedy, dodgy area with fans as scummy as Chelsea and West Ham.

Give it five years and it'll be full of artisan bakeries, organic coffee shops and ironic penny farthings.

It is not so much the Spurs supporters, it's the dodgy locals from that housing estate if you ever have the misfortune of wandering over that way.
Was that not the estate where some copper got killed?

Agreed. It's a horrible area.

My first and only game at White Hart Lane was Spurs 0 Villa 2 back in 1990-ish when Sid Cowans showed Paul Gascoigne just what being a midfield maestro is all about.  I can remember being very underwhelmed by the ground itself - it was very "sandy" and yellow and bright, if that makes sense?  It didn't have the same rich, dark theatrical feel that Villa Park can evoke under the floodlights.

All credit to what Levy has achieved there over the past decade, though.  They've been brilliantly run and I hope and pray we now have people as competent and ambitious running our Club.

The 4 1 my fav head to head gane only on the basis first time I had ever seen us beat them, my grandad was a spud and we were supposed to lie down and lose 4-1

In the midst of the Spurs envy, let's also remember that they were incredibly lucky to get a world record-smashing fee for a player they were about to offload to Small Heath a couple of years earlier and are able to charge more for parking than we do for match tickets.

And they still haven't actually won anything for donkey's.
