West Bromwich Brazil vs Middlesbrough was a shocker. I wish I'd done a bet on it being 0-0, it was guaranteed. Albion at home and they didn't want to take the game to Boro. Very very dull.

If it was anyone else, I'd almost feel sorry for the poor bastards who have season tickets to go and watch that rubbish.

Watching Barcelona at Atletico Bilbao tonight, they are effectively using their goalkeeper as a ball playing sweeper, to an extent I've never seen before.  It's all hugely impressive, but is going to place huge demands on the fitness levels of their defenders.

I was amazed that even when Bilbao were piling forward in the last 10 minutes that Barca continued too give Ter Stegen the ball under pressure and then in turn he gave it too a defender that was under pressure, it was insane at times but they still kept a clean sheet.

Newcastle winning 3 on the bounce now. That's their shitty start forgotten about.
looking ominous for the rest of us, they look the best team in the division. To be expected I suppose but disappointed we can't boss teams like that with the players we have.

I was watching the highlights of their game and was very impressed how their midfield press the opposition so high up the pitch. It obviously seemed to work for them as they could have had 6 or 7 before I decided half way through I'd had enough. I'm still licking my wounds from Saturday.

Credit to them though, they really do look like a big club in the Championship. Not sure I'm a fan of all those flags but everything just seemed so.. f**king right. Let's hope their away form is poor again otherwise they'll be out of sight by Christmas.

I'd be stunned if Newcastle don't win the league this year. Stunned.

The fuckers

But I've not seen anyone else look that great. I know we've got problems but I think we're well capable of putting together a long run of wins in this league. Derby and Wednesday are two of the next best, and I didn't think either were great

Despite the poor results, we've put together a good chunk of football that i suspect is way better than most teams in this league can manage. Need to put away our chances and improve resilience in the face of pressure.

Must be achievable

The Scouse God that is Steve Gerrard said in his autobiography that he never really got on with or felt close to Benitez. He reckoned he was quite a cold character. But he also said he was by far the best coach he had ever played under for club or country. People who reckoned he wouldn't be suited to managing/coaching in the second tier of English football clearly didn't know or had forgot that he led both CD Tenerife and Extremadura to promotion to La Liga in the nineties.

I was one of the few who didn't want Newcastle to go down for that reason, I would have preferred Sunderland or anyone else

however as it looks like we might not be troubling the top two this season it might not matter that much

After 5 games Newcastle have already won the league and we're not troubling the top 2, ok then.

Sorry for the pessimism, I think it comes from winning one game in the last six fucking months

i should be ashamed of myself for not believing right now that we will pop back up straight away hopefully that might change as the season progresses

I had no fear of being relegated with them but I wanted/expected a response from everybody connected with the club to match their ambitions. I think Xia thought the same. To hear talk about 9th place as expected fills me with shame.

Smash it it, show the size and wealth but above all, show the class. Right now, only our fans are showing it.

I'd say the club's spending has reflected an appropriate level of ambition, so saying only the fans are showing it is a bit unfair.

I think by tomorrow night with a couple more coming in we'll have done everything to put ourselves right up there. The expectation level should be nothing other than automatic promotion. I doubt very much Xia has budgeted for more than one season in the Championship. It's a risk but one that should well be within the grasp of a club like ours.

After some of the attendances tonight I wonder if the Football League will realise just how against the new EFL Trophy format fans are?

It might have been a workable idea until the top teams withdrew their Reserves/U23
