Had such high hopes for Tommy, what a massive let down he has been.

Just forced myself to re-watch the goals again and he is so out of touch ! There were 4 Villa players with their backs turned at the first short corner and for the second goal Elphick was in another game, when Lascelles stepped ahead of him to side-foot at Angela. Very poor. Get Bakes back in.

We are struggling badly at centre half. Chester is a quality player but is getting dragged down in his form. Baker has played well at times but is way too inconsistent and Elphick has been a complete liability. I was surprised there was not a centre half and holding midfielder at the top of Bruce's shopping list in Jan. I somehow think there will be in the summer, plus an experienced keeper or 2.

We need a Lascelles type next to Chester.

Strong and athletic.

Baker and Chester have been o.k for most of the season in fairness but get found out against quick forwards.

Lascelles won't be at that hole long, I think he will be bought this summer. Looking at how rubbish Stones is for 50m, there are a lot of sides that would benefit from having him.

We are looking at Chris Samba on a short term deal until the summer. Can't be worse than Elphick.

...but will he " gel " in time or succumb to the BMH effect straight off?
Like many contributors, here, I can't understand how a defensive-minded coaching squad of SB + CC can't get the defence organised ??

Given that he's crap we won't have to bother coaching it into him, he can go straight into the team and be crap with out any acclimatisation.

I wanted Samba when he was at Blackburn, proper beast in those days.

No idea what state he's in now though.

or maybe his girth will be just what we need in a new goalkeeper ? He would maybe have stopped that one on the line, even standing the other side of the goal ! ?

I'm sure once he gets into the team he'll push on to become one our crappest players.

It's what they all dream of.

"I joined Villa knowing that they already have some truly dreadful players in all positions, but I've got confidence in my own ability, and I'm sure that once I've settled in, I'll stink the place out at least as badly as the boys who are here already.  I've known the gaffer for a while, and if anybody can coach any last trace of ability and confidence out of me, it's him.  It's my ambition to be really shit in League 1 next season, and I think this is the place to achieve that aim."

"You've tried the best, now try the rest."

Though anything that keeps Elphick away from the first team gets my vote.  Chris Samba, Montezuma's revenge, napalm - whatever it takes.

Maybe we can team him up with Titus Bramble.

Totes amazeballs.
