It's a test of endurance. We play 5 games in August in 20 days!

6 including the League Cup game!

Unless there is a major clear out we will achieve nothing.

what would you consider a major clear out? I think we need to remove specific players but with the right additions, and critically players that will bring the right attitude I think we have sufficient depth to get promoted. This is a league where Gestede scored 20 goals, Gary Gardner looks a world beater at times, Peter Whittingham has been outstanding as has Barry Bannan. A league that West Brom with RDM in charge came back up immediately, and one where Hull and Burnley have bounced back from at the first attempt. The chaos of last season is behind us, we have a new owner and manager. No doubt we need to move some players out and with that the entire dynamic of the club will change. So I disagree that we need a major clear out. It has to be done intelligently and precisely, and ideally quickly.

A league were a Sunderland that went down who were worse than us last season lost the first 4 games and still romped home. I'm expecting and demanding promotion but there's a chance it won't happen. Especially if our plays go into the season with the same attitude as me - which is why the signing of Elphick is pretty good business.

Think they charged £52 for some games last year, they were the team that charged the most in the Championship. Even QPR charged about £37 for their dump of a ground.

I said elsewhere that people thinking that one of the few pluses (plusses? They both look wrong) of relegation would be cheap tickets, could well be in for a bit of a shock.

With the PL £30 cap not applying down here, anyone that goes to every game is gonna be in for a wallet-thrashing season. We're in a division of teams with aspirations of higher, but without the resources. They'll squeeze every penny out of every revenue source available to them.

We ain't gettin' in nowhere for two-and-six.

Think Burton will be the cheapest at about £24.

Unfortunately they will onely have an allocation of less than 1000 and it's fairly local too.

Brentford and Fulham are on weekdays. So much for an all day Saturday session, interrupted by a football match. Bit of a downer.

Fulham is Easter Monday

Just realised. In which case, it should be a great day. Ignore everything I said earlier

First two home games are a stark reminder of our current status and yet I am probably looking forward to this season more than any for a while.

Always quite liked Wednesday, as well as United, great clubs the Sheffield pair and always a great day/night out. Anyway, looking at one of their forums I like them even more thanks to one or two of these comments:

I like Villa, there are the Wednesday of Birmingham, a classy club steeped in history. i hope we go up this year, as i think villa will do well in this league, the likes of Westwood, Grealish, Agbonlahor, Clark arent good enough for the prem, but will be very hand in our league if they can keep hold of them. Get rid of the huge earners there, and start again.

Birmingham are the pigs of that city, fucking scrubbers with no class.

When I was in my teens, Villa were in the old third division drawing in regular crowds of 30,000 or so.

In fact when we broke the record attendance in that league, we beat a crowd at Villa Park.

Proper club, lovely old ground with that fantastic facade it has.

I wish them well to be honest and hope they can regroup next season

One for the old timers:

Dont get the Villa love in.
If you were at Villa Park in74 where the coaches were parked the other side of the Holte End, and there was literally no police escort back to the coachpark, you wouldn't have such feelings.
We were outnumbered 10 to 1, and men, woman and children had to run the gauntlet. Not a pleasant day. Some serious beatings dished out. Thought to myself , wait till you come to Hillsborough for a bit of pay back. Problem was, they needed to win for promotion and rocked up with nearly 20,000 fans. Outnumbered 10-1 again!!!
And the little scamps smashed my car window and knicked my cassettes in the early 80's. Cold journey home
