I recall my old man taking me to Leicester around about 1962 and there were hundreds of Villa supporters there.  Forgot to add, we went by train on the football special so, there were certainly many who travelled.

Yeah, certainly there were occasions when away support was significant but nothing like the numbers there are today.

The world is much smaller nowadays though isn't it?  Better public transport, better road network, more people owning cars etc.  places so much easier to get to.  Plus perhaps people have a few more quid to spare.

I also recall my old man taking me to Leicester around that time, was probably the same match .If i remember correctly it was a 3-3 draw. I was remember how shocked i was at how small the ground was.I was standing in the corner of the ground and i swear i could touch the player taking a corner.I always  recall one their players called Albert Cheesebrough from that game ,probably because he was tall and skinny

That's definitely the game.  We were in the corner too.  Small world eh?

Wouldn't that have been Mike Stringfellow?
