The expected kick in the balls.  How did Kevin Toner do?  Lots on twitter saying he looked ok.
I forgot to mention him. He's looked pretty good in the last 2 games. He was solid defensively but had a decent chance with a header that he might have done better with

I'm obviously not as depressed or angry as most of you. For the first time for many weeks I stayed on at the end - as did many others - and applauded the players, most of whom, including Lescott, came right over to the away stand. Yes, we lost a game we should have won and yes, it had to be Deeney who scored, but at least the players showed fight and commitment this time and it really did seem that the result mattered to them. The mood of our supporters was interesting: booing of the usual players in the early stages, mock euphoria when we managed a shot, but it changed to sincere and vociferous cheering when we seized control of the game, something we haven't done for ages.

I'm not pretending for one moment that today's improved  performance can in any way compensate for all the mistakes on and off the field in a truly awful season, but we've been giving the players lots of criticism for not trying and seeming not to care. Today they did and I for one want to recognise that.

Good to read the views of someone who was at the game. On the stream I was watching it did seem like there were things to get cheerful about.

The shame of it is that the architects of this improved performance are likely to be first out of the door come season's end.

Went to the game, one of the lads put money on 2-2. At 2-2 he was fucking about questioning whether to 'cash out" yes, no we argued, as the ball pinged around he cashed out......just as the ball flew in to make it 3-2....we were the only two jumping around hugging each other, as we left the ground we realised he didn't make it on time.

Tossers.

Never thought I'd see the day when Villa would lose 26 league games in one season. What an appalling state of affairs.

It's early days, but he seems to lack that immediate pace. If he can read the game well it will compensate well.

Time will tell

I thought we were the better team for 85 minutes but Deeney's two goals just summed up the whole season really.  At 2-1, it all seemed too good to be true.

Not seen Cissokho's red card back yet but at the time I thought he won the ball.

Oh, and to the absolute fucking twat who started throwing coins at the Watford fans after the 3rd goal and didn't like it when I had a go at him, then I hope you're proud of yourself. Utter arsehole.

It was a red card Clamps. As clear as day. He knew exactly what he was doing when the ball came loose after the initial challenge. Bloody buffoon.

Good on you for having a word with that idiot too.

I'm having a nice few days in a little village by the south coast and have very little phone signal.

After the game had finished I managed to get enough signal to check the result, on seeing the goal timings and red card I couldn't help laughing. This is the first time I've ever laughed about Villa losing. But, really you just couldn't make it up.

Nice one Villa, keep up the good work!

Didn't go to the game today, but my initial thoughts on him last week were a good left, but looked worryingly slow.

Never thought I'd see the day when Villa would lose 26 league games in one season. What an appalling state of affairs.

I remember the days when it was unthinkable for us to lose by more than a goal or two. Home or away. Forget about ever being humiliated by bottom feeders of the lower leagues. That's not arrogant, it just didn't happen and never would have been allowed. Since DOL the standards have been whittled down. MON came along and we thought it was great but apart from a few occasions, it was pretty shite in comparison to our competition. Two trips to Wembley? Big fucking deal. The less said about the years that followed the better.

We have a lot of catching up to do and getting our house in order. We need to stop accepting "I guess he'll do" managers, crap football (see our home record for the last 30 odd years) but above all, we need leadership. There's a lethargic cloud that hangs over us, as if to say "we're not worthy" and until remove it and start demanding the best, it will never happen.

Agree with you Rudy. We need to get our standards back again, hell we need to get ANY back again, we have not lowered them as much as chucked them out of the bus miles back.

My abiding memories of us in the immediate post WW2 years was that we were not very good.  The landscape of my years as a supporter has been one of poor and mediocre performance with peaks of excellence at wide intervals.  What did surprise me when I looked at our record though was that we used to be able to bang in goals.

In one season, 1951/52 I think it was, our two inside forwards - and remember that inside forwards played like midfield players then - scored 41 goals between them.  Johnny Dixon got 28 and Tommy Thompson got 13.  Winger Billy Goffin got 10.  Our centre forward Dave Walsh did not join us from the stripeys until half way through the season and I think he got into double figures with league and cup goals.

These most recent years have been a barren wilderness not only of wins but also of goals.  Other than goals conceded of course.  There have been plenty of those.
