A few years before my time (born in 1957) but I was brought up on that FA Cup win, so always aware of him.

I have always idolized him from the very first game he played.

I had never met him in the flesh.  About five years ago my son lost his car keys in the North Stand car park.  We crawled around for what seemed like hours hunting the keys.  This very erect man my own age asked if he could help search. We said much appreciated.  The guy said "are these the keys?" handing them to my son.  For the first time we actually looked at him.  It was Peter McParland.

My first hero,  my first game was a win against Ipswich in 1959.  He was quick, strong and scored, I was heart broken when he left us. Happy birthday Peter.
