Aston Villa caretaker-manager Eric Black, speaking to BBC Sport: “We created more chances. We had two or three chances, and if we’d taken them, we might have got something. But if we have to score five goals at home to win a game, then we’re going to be in for a tough challenge. We did get a response under difficult circumstances, but it wasn’t enough to win the game.

“We conceded poor goals that put us on the back foot. There was a response, and credit for that, but on the day it wasn’t enough.

“The fans are entitled to vent their displeasure. It’s not an ideal atmosphere, but it’s understandable, given the circumstances. We have to continue to be professional."

Black's team selections are making a bad situation worse. If he brought the likes of Green and Traore into the fold the crowd might muster some enthusiasm, but he regularly puts out the dullest possible team.

Exactly. I've heard a few commentators saying that the 'atmosphere at VP' isn't right for bringing young lads in. Think they simply fail to grasp that the atmosphere would actually be better. The fans would be totally behind the young lads and ecstatic to see the back of the wasters that have sent us down

All I can say to all of the players and management team is this.

For the first time that I can recall, they kept the music going at full blast right up to kick off rather than read the team names out once the players came out from the tunnel. And two warnings on the video screens about pitch encroachment being illegal and would result in arrest and a ban. The club is now officially treating us with contempt. And if the club isn't then Eric Black certainly is and he can just fuck right off with the rest of them. That team selection was a disgrace. One up front, at home, when we're already relegated. On the way back I heard him say he did this to protect the back four - so playing for damage limitation or 0-0. Well that worked a treat - for all of 2 minutes before they hit the bar and missed a sitter. Lescott, Bacuna Richards and Guzan still being picked. And when he got round to changing it he replaces one striker with another - still one up front. Why not play Ayew off Gestede? And why was Bacuna on the pitch at all let alone not being substituted? Also heard on the way back that as the players went off at half time Bacuna had 'offered a supporter out'. It's gone beyond the club just being a laughing stock - it's a complete basket case.

I thought it was a gritty and resilient performance under very difficult circumstances, well co-ordinated, and full of dignity.  Not the fucking players, the poisonous wastes of oxygen, but the fans. 

This season has become less and less about the football (for obvious reasons), and more about witnessing how the fans spirits won't be broken by the complete fuck-wittery on and off the pitch.  Long after the stain of Lerner and this current team has been purged from B6,  these fans will still be there showing what loyalty and dedication truely means.
