So many comparisons with our current team.

Terrible team and not easy to watch.

I'm actually in this clip from 35.24 shouting VILLA at the front (as a 13 year old) when Birchy takes the corner, great goal from him in this game as well.
Just over 23,000 at this game for a Semi final which was sign of the times, we only bettered this 3 times all season.
I still think Spink, Evans, Birch, hodge (sorry!!!), Walters, Shaw (albeit never the same after injuries from 83 onwards) and even Stainrod would get into todays team.

I remember getting to Villa Park at about 7am to queue for tickets for the away leg. And what a shit night it turned out to be.

This game was about the time that I seriously got back into supporting the Villa again. Twas a woeful experience I recall. I suppose you could say that we've gone full circle except that some of these guys could easily get into todays line up.

This was the 2nd time in two years that we'd gone out of the LC at the semi final stage - losing 2-1 on aggregate to Everton in 1984 was bad enough, but even though we'd only drew this home leg 2-2, I was convinced we'd finish the job at the manor ground - as you say chico ....................
