Something else I noticed last night was attacking towards the Holte in the first half/swapping ends after the toss. We did the same against Palace, and I presumed we changed ends as we'd lost the toss until someone pointed out that Palace kicked off, so we must have won the toss and chosen to change ends. As Wycombe kicked off last night I presume the same happened. Wonder why they've started doing that? do they think they play better attacking the Holte so try to use it as a first half advantage? Whatever the reason - I don't like it

Well given we've won both the games in which we've done it, they can keep doing it as far as I'm concerned.

And he's never played in a team as good as the one he was in for us.

Grealish was so bad last night he looked like a fan who had won a competition to star for the Villa for 45 minutes. Truly woeful, so easily knocked off the ball.

Grealish was a lazy git last night. Compare that performance to the one against Notts County. Like watching two different players.

I suppose Grealish has had tonsillitis which could have had an impact on his energy levels.

Obviously pleased that we won but, my precis of the match: Wycombe: First half: 1 shot on target that Guzan had to make a good save from. Us - 2 shots into the side netting.
Second half - both teams pretty woeful but we managed to get two shots on target and scored from both.
I've never in all the years I've been going to Villa Park ever felt like leaving before the end of the match but, it was really cold and the players were doing absolutely sod all to warm us up that, had it have finished 0-0, after 90 minutes, I was going to leave and just listen to the rest on the radio. Players were booed at half time although I never join in with this.
Can't blame Gestede as he can only do the best he can so, the manager should have a little pity on him and not select him. He would get nowhere near any other premier league team. Grealish - least said the better. Sinclair - please learn Welsh immediately and go to Swansea asap.

There was a point towards the end of the first half where Ayew won the ball, was tackled, knocked to the ground won it back, was tackled again and then won it back and laid it off. All the while Grealish was stood a foot away uninvolved.

Really strange what's happening with Grealish. Think it's a lack of confidence like most of our players, they just defer to each other rather than taking responsibility. A team with Ayews attitude and we'd be fine.

We need to be careful with Grealish.  Yes he's having a bad time, but given the number of players we've let go, only to see them shine at other clubs where their managed properly, is that a risk we should take?

I think it's a bit unfair to judge Grealish on last nights performance alone.  Yes, he was bundled off the ball a few times and had a couple of poor touches - but everyone around him was woeful too. 

Equally he showed glimpses of what he can do and at these times he looks like a real player.  Yes, he's not developed as we would have expected this season and yes, he needs to sort any shit out - but for me he's a must keep.

With Grealish, as someone said, he's been ill, so that will effect his energy. But has Garde's riot act to him had an effect? Some players need a shoulder and to be told "hey you're great". And when that doesn't happen, it can effect the lack of confidence more. Obviously as a professional they should put the shirt on and put a shift in.

Or you could look as Gabby as an example, and assume everyone should love you.

Sinclair had ( from the radio / highlights ) a ok game and still has a role to play. And Ayew, as usual, played as an example for everyone else.

Still, good that Gueye got a goal as that could help him in the league.

I don't get it when I read the suggestions he was lazy or didn't put a shift in last night.

I couldn't fault his work rate - I particulary noticed his movement in trying to get away  from their #20 who seemed to be intent on man marking him by holding Grealish in some type of bear grip for most of the first half.

To me he looked out of touch and to some degree constained by the paucity of options around him - much the same as many have excused Gill for.

Clearly it's a poilcy now if we win the toss. We didn't against Leicester  as we kicked off after losing the toss.

I have just read the match report in this mornings Guardian and its says.... " Wycombe themselves led 3-1 at Villa Park in the League Cup on 2005 before losing 8-3 "

I know a few H & Vers read The Guardian. I have no idea where their reporter Peter Lansley got the idea that game was at Villa Park. Perhaps he was inaccurately told this by an employee or someone associated with Aston Villa Football Club. If this was the case then it is just another sign of how far our once great club has fallen.

I have e-mailed them about this and hopefully it will be remedied in their corrections and clarifications section in the coming days. I shall keep my Guardian subscription at present but review this pending their response.
