Was it written off or was a lot of it turned into equity?
Probably one of the reasons he can't sell the club.

Well if we aren't in profit this season we might as well give up because we have a wage bill lower than the Albions who are a complete tin pot outfit.

Ironically, after spending all this time trying, we will probably make our first profit under Lerner, only to be back to square one next season set to make a massive loss when our income drops by over 75%.

Sherwood does seem to have mastered MON's talent for leaving a car crash behind and coming up smelling of roses.

Oh for a 6th place car crash

MON's huge wage bill also left us with the likes of Milner, Young, Downing and even Collins who were both more use on the pitch and more value for resale than TSM's Given and N'Zogbia.

Probably one of the reasons he can't sell the club.

Well technically turned into equity, but in practice, what he's put in - sales price = write off.  So if you accept he's put in somewhere just north of £250M and he's going to struggle to see more than £100M back he'll be writing off around £150M.

The £200M is in round numbers what he's put in since he purchased to keep things afloat without relying on bank loans - which is where the likes of Leeds and Portsmouth got into trouble.

I was always led to believe by someone who works for the BBC that Pat Murphy was a villa fan.

Isn't he a Chelsea fan? or did I dream that?

When somebody who owns 100% of something converts a loan into equity, that's just a posh way of saying "write off". He can't own 150% of the club!

Not quite, he's releasing his claim on the loan and taking his chances on a future sale price.

The true cost of the write off will only be known when a sales price is agreed. In theory he could still make a profit. In practice there's more chance of us winning the CL next season.

Only Doug could have come up with a way of owning 150% of Villa.

On the subject of TalkSport, I had the misfortune to listen to Jason Cundy last night (my lift had it on before anyone says its my own fault for listening).
