Experience in Premiership or Championship
« on: January 02, 2016, 02:54:00 PM »
On Garde's thread there is a growing perception of his unsuitability for the Championship-basically his lack of experience of it.
This necessity of experience in a division is a dangerous fallacy. Karanka (Boro) ,Neil (Norwich)and Flores and others at Watford didn't have that required experience.
Similar criteria would have meant that Busby,Ferguson,Clough and Ron Saunders wouldn't have got the jobs at United,Derby and Oxford and Guardiola won't be getting a post in the PL.

Likewise with players.Townsend,Teale ,Taylor and Withe started in non league football. From lower divisions have come Clyne,Kyle Walker,Joe Hart,Vardy and particularly Cresswell for whom we wouldn't pay what Ipswich wanted and bought cheaper and second best in Bennett.
I don't want a transfer policy of cheapness that ruined the Villa in the 60s and is threatening to do the same, nor a policy that follows the dogma of experience that characterised MON's dealings but just a simple policy of acquiring players who are better than what we have got.Experience of the division can be important but not essential. Same with managers.

Meant to put suitability for the Championship if we get relegated.I don't intend it as a criticism of Garde either .

Joleon Lescott might have briefly played in  the Premiership when he signed for Everton.  Other than him I don't think there's anybody else.

Yes, it's pernickety. Yes, I'm going to keep doing it.

Grade might not make it to the Championship.

I doubt he will be here come August. Reminds me of the situation under Billy McNeil. I used to work with his daughter. She told me from day one he wasn't going to be there long. The club have given up on Premiership football they have just appointed someone to take us down.
