I think there are definitely echoes of the present in that piece.  OK we haven't fallen from such a great height as we did in the 80's, but we were a top six side when O'Neill left.  For Turner, read Lambert and Sherwood and the references to lack of desire amongst the players sounds very familiar.  When you add in flirtations with the bottom of the league in previous seasons, the similarities are there.

Yes the comparisons are all there as i have said before: A team that looks useful on paper but in reality is poor, panic appointment of Billy McBingo (read Garde), unable to score, good young untried players, a buy to sell policy, etc., etc., would confirm that we've learned nothing from history.
Sad times ahead.
