Only decided to go to this a few days before as we knew it was on tv (and it was a Sunday and all that).  Sat in the Upper Trinity just above the old directors' box - am I glad I decided to go !!!

My lasting memory was Neville Southall's face when he picked the ball out of the net after the 5th and 6th goals !!

I remember this game so well. It was one of the first Villa games I went to and I think it cemented my position as a Villa fan.

As I remember McGrath scored a stunning own goal to make it 6-2.

Is that all ?

I know it was 3.30pm on a Sunday and it was on tv - but that's incredibly low.

the funny thing  is that if Everton had won they would have gone top of the league.

I remember gates at the time at all grounds were sparse but not that low.

I was at the game and recall it being a decent crowd.  The shots before and during the game show a pretty full Holte End, which would have been nearly 17,000 on its own.

In much the same way that I often look around the ground now and think, "Is there bollocks 34,000 people actually in here", back then I'd look around and think that the stated attendance was some sort of tax-dodging technique. And I wasn't there, I was helping my old man demolish a chimney breast.
