Emile Heskey. Cult hero???

Seems one of us is a big Heskey fan.

I also have to sheepishly admit that I've always had a softspot for Big Emile, for a few of the same reasons as the gent who wrote this article. I freely admit he was a waste of money and a bit pants, but I always found the tumbling bear quite a likeable player. I always wanted and willed him to have a good game, even after often groaning about his inclusion in a starting lineup.

What say you all of Mr Heskey?

It was also quite a shock in those once in a blue moon moments that he'd suddenly do something genuinely good. His debut goal. His header against Wolves. Although he seemed to be here too long, and play too much (though to be contradictory his continual injury record was just as frustrating as his actual playing), as things stand I do actually feel more affinity for the big man than Gabby who I feel has let things slide a lot. Heskey was always limited and had age against him when he joined. Gabby's slip from average (but great on a given day) to simply mediocre has been less forgivable IMO.

He was shite. And we paid him a fortune. If we'd signed a proper forward we'd have finished top four. Heskey is a living embodiment of that cretin O'Neill's refusal to look past overpaid Brits in the transfer market.

I date the start of Villa's decline plummet in ambition and fortunes to the day of his arrival.
Utterly shite in almost every aspect of his game, apart from his near legendary hold-up play, which mostly involved him turning his arse to goal and falling over.
The man himself always impressed me with his professionalism and seems a genuinely decent bloke, however.

It does not augur well when your hold-up player is dis-affectionately known as "Bambi".

Risso and cdweebullyfan have nailed it.

We'd have been better off signing this Ivanhoe

Strike rate of one in ten. For a centre forward that's shocking.
